Couldn't it simply be a singer expressing the desire everyone has on Friday when they have a REALLY bad day at school/work and they're just waiting for the weekend so they can have one hell of a party, but fears he or she will break under the pressure? This opinion draws from the oft overlooked fact he says We towards the end instead of I, which seems to parallel someone talking about what a bad day they've had with friends and then them collectively deciding if they survive until Saturday, they'll enjoy themselves. This seems to be supported by the main chorus: "its not a hill, its a mountain/as we start up the climb" which seems to suggest that something mediocre isn't nearly as bad as it seems at first. As you go through that friday, you realize its not really that bad! I loved the wordplay hidden in this. Most people would see "you know we'll go crazy if we don't go crazy tonight" as saying that their sanity is, in fact, driving them insane. which is a valid interpretation, but if one was to think hard on it, it would occur they are saying "you know we'll go crazy (have fun) if we don't go crazy (insane) tonight" |
