Angela got fired or laid off. Not sure what "penguin ate it's fish" might mean, butt in the context of the first line, I guessing the company she worked for got greedy and had to lay her off. Pretty straight forward to me. I think this song encompasses about 3 themes. First is that being a single mother has the tendancy to kill any joy you would otherwise have in your kids. Second is that you have got to look out for yourself at your job because when push comes to shove, any loyalty you place to your company will not be reciprocated. And finally, I think "Angela's Secret" may be that she's now a slave to work and her kids, and is no longer her own. She works for them, eats with them, and breathes for them. When it says "I wanna be there when the next chap walks out on you..." I am picking up that either she has been a victim of several dire circumstances, or continually makes really poor choices in the men in her life. "Some ain't got no luck" could either be sarcasm or empathy. I can never tell with TAAS songs due to the mood of the music. |

| Fitz & the Tantrums – Breakin' The Chains Of Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Freaking awesome song. Kudos to Fitz for pushing the envelope and trying to revive one of the greatest era's in music history. Lost his girl and is trying to help her see that she belongs with him. She's not coming back and he's in some serious sort of pain finding out she's doing all she can to hurt him. He still wants her to come back and is hoping in the end she won't actually fall in love with someone else and come back to him. Not sure if she left because of something she did or some other reason. |

First off, I agree with klaxon, I thought this was an "oldie" that I never heard, and when I looked it up and found out it's a new song I was floored. All themes of art are cyclical, but we've been stuck with pretty much the same watered down styles and crappy "club" music that for someone to come out and attempt to revive Motown is freaking awesome. Hope to hear more from more artists. A nice melding of the old and the new would be nice too. I'm guessing this is about a woman who took all she could, walked out the door, and tried to crawl back for more once her new boy had enough. The guy she left sees her crying like she wants to come home, but then he sees "blue hands in her pockets", basically saying she's only crying cause she needs something from him again. His payback to her is that, although she's in need, she's burnt her bridge and "has to make it on her own" now, which probably won't happen cause she's such a ho. |

| Dead Poetic – Narcotic Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I agree with Glassinthetreesx, this has got to be "part 2" of Vanus Empty. Part of the reason I feel Dead Poetic has such an impact is the raw candor they have in presenting the harshest realities we face everyday. Vanity's new gun went off, and while one victim is dead, it's not enough, "Hollywood/The World" is never satiated. The personification of Vanity shows a person that is addicted to the endless pursuit of empty ambitions and trying to "fit in" and will stop at nothing to continue to run in that circle, regardless of how many get hurt along the way. I think it's interesting, and maybe un-related, that the next song on the album is "In Coma". I feel they are trying to say the only defense we have to this backstabbing "Hollywood/Vanity" addiction which leaves so many people irreparably damaged is to stay dead to the world. Reminds me of the verse "Be in the world, but not of the world". | |

| That's how I felt about this one too. I love the line "Did you devise how your frame would be formed". In all our arrogance, that one question...well, what else needs to be said. | |

auhsoj3, couldn't agree more. It's disheartening to say the least to listen to the majority of mass produced drudge that comes in off the airwaves. Not that the world is simply doom and gloom, but 'brutally honest' music just hits it home for me. Augustineee, we all hold to our beliefs with fervor, and in no way do I wish to push any of mine on anyone else. All the same, evolution or not, you are so right about our disconnect from nature. I wish more people in this world could just stop and take a breath or two. Our adherence, and so blindly at times, to the man made lines of religion and politics will always (in my opinion) be the downfall of our race... |

"We can't medicate man to perfection again; We can't legislate peace in our hearts. We can't educate sin from our souls, it's been there from the start. But the blind lead the blind into bottomless pits, Still we smile and deny that we're cursed. But of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst..." Can anyone else see the picture of America and the world of late? How about the "Church"...? We've all forgotten our purpose, turned our thoughts and intentions inwards, and spit on the very thought of God and all that we don't understand of Him. All the while, we've figured out that Apes are our fathers and mothers, and sharks are our offspring. Auhsoj3 says "this has to be some of the darkest music they have ever put out" I say, this has to be some of the most honest music anyone has ever put out... Of all of our iniquities ignorance may be the worst...but it's bliss, right? Listen to track 2...A bright light shines in the darkness to anyone who is willing to look, and listen. But we all talk too much... |

Depressing when you miss the one thing that I think Dustin is trying to say, over and over again, in all of their albums. ...Life is not about us, it's about selfless love. The stuff the cross is made out of... |
