I think he's singing about a girl who's liked him forever and he never liked her back. Someone he found annoying. It seems even as though she may be someone who's kind of off limits, like a best friend's sister or a life long family friend. So even though he never liked her she kept going after him and then when he finally realized that he loved her, she had moved on, and now he's remembering how much hated or didn't want to be around her and missing her "annoying" presence. Half-boyfriend could mean how she liked him, but he didn't like her. So the relationship was halfway there. You know the type the girl who pretends she's the guy's boyfriend even if he can't stand her. Anyway that's how I heard it. |
