Hahaha, I didn't know there was a debate over the meaning of the song. In my head I picture a moderately rich, Middle aged, unmarried yet very sexually active for her time period , beautiful, almost Diva, lady. She is lying on her bed in her small apartment that is of the art nouveau period, but she is living at the end of that period, like between the 1910's20's. She is depressed, a bit tired of life, of all the ups and downs of love. This song reminds me a lot to "Black Coffee", I think they talk about the same thing pretty much. Listen to black coffee, and I think if you get the meaning of that song, you'll get this one too . I actually took a lecture on this song, but that was so many years ago, I wish I could remember the exact meaning. For me it's not so much of a meaning or a message the song is trying to transmit, but more of a portrait, an image. So really , this woman could be any woman, I really don't think it's a prostitute, but hey.... I never thought about it until now and that sounds kind of cool. Funny to see how people give themselves out with this meanings, everybody relates to it in their own personal experience like drugs I guess. |

| I have a feeling that the video has nothing to do with the song. The video is absurd, I love it BTW. I also think its more about a relationship that she has or had, something more personal. She keeps talking about not picking up the phone which as I understand, its a stereotype of a breakup. I do love though your approach of work and career towards this song. | |

| Thats got to be it. I am a big fan of the Little Prince. Today I woke up feeling down so I examined my life and realized I was following a similar path to the one of the little Prince and that therefore I think it's time for me to go back home. Right after I realized that I started playing this song on my head, I could feel a similarity that I couldn't understand. So here I am looking for the meaning of it, not expecting the little Prince whatsoever. And Voila! What a coincidence. I had no idea Moby like the Little Prince, thank you very much. | |

Oh, come one, this is a web-page to discuss the song meaning, why just rant about it. Anyways, I was hearing it the other day and I'd like to add another interpretation. Maybe it is about jealousy. You know what they say, beauty is life biggest injustice? Well it is for both parties, for the people who are considered ugly, they have a harder time getting things even in this day and age, and beautiful people seem to get the things they want easier. So that is pretty unfair for the ugly people. But then there is also all the Jealousy that beautiful people have to face, they never asked to be beautiful they just are, and some people when they see that they immediately assume that that person is snobby or feels superior to the rest. The reason I mention beauty is because of the selection of Blue eyes. He could have put any other color, but he chose blue, which in my opinion, it is the stereotype of beautiful eyes. So this song could be about the people whom you think are born with package and whom you'd see on the street and believe they have everything, but really inside them they are sad. You know, just because someone can be beautiful and seem popular and loved or something like that, that does not mean they are happy all the time, beauty brings them problems to. Remember everyone is different and everyone has problems, you might think some people have lesser problems, but they are still problems, they are just different problems, but pain is always pain. |
