this song is two hippies in love. monkey on your back is often referred to as a drug addiction. hitting up the bong was a 'trend' back then. starry-eyes, body swinging from side to side . . sounds like someone under the influence. its a brilliant song. really is the perfect love song. its mine and my darling's song =P |

they won't be chilly if they had sheets to keep them warm ;p i still think that one verse is about them "making love". and to me, that first bar is something like a coat hanger. i see it pretty literal there. but then again the drunken men makes it a bit obvious its an actual bar. still though, i don't think setting the fire to the third bar is referring to an electric heater. |

'heating it up'. "share each other like an island"; he gives himself to her and she to him. (aka making love). after making love, exhaustion, sleep, dreaming, etc. to me, the only interpretation for weeping skin means actual sweat. not because ITS hot, but because THEY'RE hot. after all, they did just finish setting the fire to the third bar, no? "a joy you can't keep in"; seems pretty self explanatory. its obvious the song is about a long distance relationship, but also a close one. whenever i read Dear John by Nicholas Sparks, i heard this song. it wasn't until last week when i saw the trailer to the Dear John movie and this was the song they used. this song is pretty much the whole book. |
