| My friends and I recreated the 60's in the 90's. I'm sure you've heard, "if you remember the 60's, you weren't there". Well, for me and my friends, it was the 90's. That being said, a lot of the imagery is something you might see on a Trip, and kaleidoscope is a type of acid. It's not all made exactly the same way, there are subtle differences, and that particular formula was characterized by a tendency to make you see in kaleidoscope images. Purple haze is another type, BTW, that the formula for has been lost, to the best of my knowledge. I think the girl with kaleidoscope eyes is the person he is getting his acid from. | |

Maybe it's about a picture that was drawn by his son, but it's also a hidden reference to drugs. Everyone seems to pick up on the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds as an LSD reference. There are also a couple of other drug references in the song, mainly about acid. A lot of the imagery in the song is something you might see on an acid trip, if the dose is good, but I'm talking specifically about the girl with kaleidoscope eyes reference. Anyone who has ever dosed or really knows about acid will tell you, kaleidoscope is a type of acid, like purple haze or black pyramid. Purple haze formula is lost, BTW. Also, a couple of more subtle references: EVERYONE SMILES AS YOU DRIFT PAST THE FLOWERS, if you've ever been on an acid trip, you know, you can't stop smiling. Your facial muscles are sore the next day from smiling so much. Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly...You can't answer any other way, because your perceptions are slowed down, and sounds can seem drawn out, particularly speech. Also, the and you're gone...When on acid, your mind IS gone. They don't call it a trip for nothing, and on a more generic note, that grow so incredibly high....Don't need to explain that one. This song must be about drugs, I could see him missing the LSD acronym in Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, but the rest of it? It fits to neatly, it has to be deliberate. |

I'm a guy. There are chicks out there who have that effect on me. I don't think the song has much to do with love, as much as desire, and desire for rough sex. Seems to me to be about obsession, and the fulfillment of that obsession on a mutual level, I.E. Not rape |

I agree with the whole online obsession angle, that seems pretty obvious to me, but it also seems that the girl is trapped in an abusive or controlling relationship. she never leaves her home but shes real sweet got her own style leaves the windows real wide crosses her fingers after so many years mascara runs through the tracks of her tears A common form of abuse or control is not letting the partner outside by herself, and she's crossing her fingers that maybe he can rescue her after being in this relationship for so many years. Just my take. |
