The Mountain Goats – Lion's Teeth Lyrics 16 years ago
The lion's tooth appears to be is a symbol of power. The lion is nothing without his teeth - an attempt to pull out the tooth is an attempt to take away the lion's ability to use his brute force to harm others. But in the end, the king of the jungle is going to win out - "there's this great big you, and little old me".

The Mountain Goats – You or Your Memory Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with the idea that the narrator is contemplating suicide. It seems that he isn't entirely sold on the idea because he has bought a combination of items which are probably not strong enough to be lethal - a child's dose of analgesic and a low-alcohol drink. Later, after taking this mix, he has a sudden moment of clarity where he realizes it is not a good idea ("Lord, if I make it through tonight, I will mend my ways"). I think the "you" referred to in the song is a person lost to the narrator, someone who he no longer in contact with, who is just a memory now.

He spreads out his supplies for the night: an intoxicating mix of liquor, pills, and regret.
