| They Might Be Giants – Bangs Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is so fun. I think most men have something that they happen to find attractive in girls, be it a hair style, or hair color, or anything. In this song, he has a thing for bangs, and he's letting the girl know that he's attracted to her as she is. He loves her hairstyle, but more importantly, he loves her. The line "A proscenium to stage a face that needs no makeup" bugs me, though. Maybe its the theater nerd in me, but technically it should read "A proscenium to frame a face that needs no makeup", because the proscenium is basically the frame of a stage, much like a hairstyle frames a face. |

| Deep down inside, aren't we all drawn to the "bad boy"? The boy that is just so frustrating, makes you scream and cry, and hate him because you love him so much? That's what this song is about. She's currently dating a good guy, who does and says all the right things, and she knows she should be happy, but there is just no chemistry. She see's her ex, the bad boy, as the one that got away. All the fighting and yelling added passion to the relationship.. While that type of relationship may not exactly be healthy, neither is a relationship where you are living a lie. | |

At first I hated this song. The references to Romeo and Juliet seemed juvenile at best. And throwing in the Scarlet Letter comment made it seem like she was trying too hard to seem smart without knowing what she's talking about. But the more I listened to it, the more I realize that this song has some adult undertones. Girl meets boy. Girl's parents don't approve of boy. Girl sneaks out and meets boy in the woods. Girl and boy fool around. Girl and boy get into a 'mess'. Boy gets scared. Then boy talks to girl's dad. Boy and girl get married. Girl and boy presumably live happily ever after, considering the song is referring to past events. Sort of reminds me of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach. |
