skttrbrain is entitled to their own opinion. mine is that skttrbrain is a toolshed. that being said this is my favorite BOH song. i do agree it could be about a friend that keeps screwing up. or that isn't learning from his/her mistakes. and it could be drugs since he writes: open your mouth sounds of breathing foulness spilling from your face (vomiting?) whatever the mistakes are this song is terrific. and it's 2:30 so it's never long enough ha. |

i hope it doesn't say animal but i can't tell. at first i thought it said "are you allowed to think of what a mess you made" but it sounds like all your life now. i'm dying to know what the ??? is before the first chorus. seems crucial to the song. she's become a what to everyone?! to me it's about a relationship that has just ended. and he feels at least somewhat vindicated to have ended it and maybe he wonders what took him so long to do it. blue beard is my favorite off the new album but i can't stop listening to this song. |

sounds like he's pronouncing grand allusion but illusion seems more likely. GREAT song. My favorite off the new album. They make great songs, hopeful and sad alike. This one being a little sad then with a bit of hope at the end. He (the person in the song) can't understand how she can walk away from what they had. He even seems uncertain as to why it ended (or he doesn't think it's a good enough reason i.e. i was drinking that night). But in the end he's determined to try love again. |

my fave 3EB song (sorry Crystal Baller you are #2) TO ME the song is: him not being able to decide if it's the right thing to do to walk away and let her go. they had something (it's not clear how much "a memory that i can't speak of" vs. "there was something we went through" and that they have been intimate) but they aren't together and it's not going to happen unless one of them does something. and everyday the possibility is farther away. but he fears that he'll always wonder about her. i think it says "this could be MY big mistake" the first time he says that part. Seems like "My" says more than "A". |

i'm with iamscene..many years later ha. i think it means this: it didn't work out with the girl. and it's later on (what happened to the time) and now he realizes she's who he wants. so it's a plea to re-open their relationship. to be together for good this time. such a sad song yet it has hope since it is a plea. perhaps she will say yes. i want to know the significance of "macrame queens in the afternoon" seems like he's remembering a memory from their past where he sang to her. but what song? 3EB is so underrated. the guy writes amazing lyrics. a lot of them are about breakups though. this one is in my top 5 though. up there with "farther" and "motorcycle drive by" |

he says "maybe anywhere the wind blows" instead of "and anyway" but..the part where it says "Take the darkest hour-break it open" does anyone think it says "take the darkest doubt-break it open"? just always sounded cooler to me. great great song. i saw them (toad) live recently back to back shows and they played this both times. amazing. |

| i'm with you. it's common to look deeply into the lyrics for the meaning when really it's about something more simple. i think it does have to do with or at least has a secondary meaning about a girl getting herself off. it isn't the only highly sexual song from them (catch and release) so it makes sense. cool, cool song. | |
