| Kansas – Carry on Wayward Son Lyrics

I have two theories about possible meanings for this song:
First, it seems to fit the story of Macbeth very well. In the play, Hecate even refers to him as a "wayward son." The song may be chronicling his descent into madness, as it starts out with him quickly gaining power, but slowly going crazy under the influence of the witches, the "voices when I'm dreaming." Of course, that would make the chorus of this song quite a bit creepier.
My second possible interpretation is that it could be about a famous political figure. He starts out wanting to change the government and fix the corruption, but he eventually becomes corrupted and only wishes greater power. He struggles to maintain popularity under the will of his constituents, the "stormy sea of moving emotion." |

The beginning of this song reminds me of the end of Rush's 2112, although the speaker obviously has the opposite intentions |

If I didn't know any better, I would say that this song was about disliking the Pittsburgh Steelers lol |

When I first saw the title of this song I thought, "I wonder if it's about communists. . . nah, it can't be about that." Then I just cracked up when I realized that actually was what it is about. This song is great! |

This song is sweet! (Pun intended)
And Stryper did make a secular album (though they didn't "deconvert"). It's called Against the Law. |
