ok i'm gonna step back and look at this one from the perspective that i would have if i wasn't a die hard fan. (i must admit i am) Wait I watched you throw out your bouquet Now i think about you everyday I'm alone now in my bed (ok this means writing about someone whom he had a strong connection with, whether he's talking about an actual wedding or if the bouquet is just a metaphor, and after they broke off, he realized he missed the relationship, and he realizes how alone he has become) And there's a lake And at the bottom you'll find all our friends They don't swim cause they're all dead We never are what we intend, or invent (ok, so he's been cut off from all his friends, they all are dead to him, (first lines of sowing season, anyone?) and it's probably his fault. he never meant to cut himself off, but he isn't how he wanted to be, or tried to be. (i think he says invent to make a poke at how people will lie to look cool and not be themselves)) 'Cause I make little lies and then I pull them apart Think something dark's living down in my heart (this kinda ties in to the whole lying about himself and such, he creates this little lie, whether about himself or not, and then it almost seems like he just lets it go when he gets bored. and there's something he feels is to dark to show about himself, that's why he creates these little lies) And if I wanted to die before I got old I should've started some years ago digging that hole (i love this little stanza, it kind of hints back to sic transit gloria a little bit, it means that he's showing a little bit of apprehension about getting older and he most likely feels unaccomplished, and unprepared to be old) Well I carry this box to the proper place And when I lower it down I let it you fade away I hope that you would do this for me I'd serve you drugs on a silver plate If I thought it would help you get away I hope that you would do this for me (ahh, the chorus. it starts to look like the relationship he was talking about earlier is seriously finished for good, even though the fact that he's talking about a coffin is probably just a metaphor. he seems to say that he's going to move on from this person's "death" and he hopes that s/he would do the same (im guessing it's a she, but i dunno). Then again he starts talking about helping this person escape, through drugs this time, and how he hopes, yet again, that if s/he were in his position, that s/he would do help him in the same way) A deer that a hunter shot in the heart Some dogs that got hit by cars All came to spill their guts (so this is a little bit on the weird side, i mean i like it alright, but it kind of disrupts the flow of the song, and the only meaning i could really think for this would be that no matter what the wound is, no matter how it happened, we all bleed blood, and we all die. im not sure how it ties into the song, but, oh well...) And we spoke About the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost And which songs we had loved the most And then we all turned to dirt And dust Some men die under the mountain just looking for gold Some die looking for a hand to hold ( here he brings in the point that everyone is searching for something. whether they're talking about religion, or looking for gold, or someone to be with, every single person wants something, and not always the same thing, but we all return to dust, and we normally just end up talking about how much we want this thing we're chasing, but we never get up to look for it, and then we die, unfulfilled. this ties back into how he wants this relationship back with this person, and how he doesn't want to get old) well there you go, im not sure how accurate it is, or how clearly i even got my point across, but that's what i got. I love this track, and can't wait for Daisy or their tour. |

| I can't even begin to say how much this song appeals to me. Jesse has never stood still when it came to song production, he's constantly evolving, and even though his last two albums may be where I want them to stay (I loved Deja and Devil and God) but the fact that he's still bringing the same passion, and lyrical depth, even while changing sounds and moving forwards. Jesse Lacey is a true musician, and this song is incredible | |
