It's also about not wanting to wait for your ship to come in. Not swallowing that crap about having to wait for things. Not mortgaging your future when you can have that sun-drenched wind-swept kiss now. And that that is the thing worth fighting for . . . |

Whether it's about a friend or Amanda herself isn't really terribly important. It's a character piece and one of the most powerful and affecting I've heard. The details make it, the seven years in advertising, among the sneaky/cynical types we are led to believe work there, have still not allowed Delilah to see through the prick/s she gives her needy self to. That's why the last lines of the 'At four o'clock . . .' verse annoy me. I can't figure them out: Larry Tap let you in through the back And use his calling card again for a quick hand of gin Is the 'he' Larry Tap, or the boyfriend? Is the calling card the reputation of the boyfriend with Larry? Is it a card school - the card game Gin Rummy rather than the drink? Is Delilah's status as 'His' girlfriend her passport into the world of back-doors and lete-bars and all sorts of backroom activities? Any thoughts? For what it's worth I don't think it's about Amanda herself and it's definitely not a prostitute. . . |
