Many have said the line "I need sanctuary in the pages of this book" refers to a search of help inside his comatose state but personally I also interpret it as a way of satisfying the human need of transcendance(perhaps it's mars volta's wish, to honor their friend), since Julio/Cerpin sort of, by killing himself, found a way of being inmortal and the hero he couldn't be while he was alive in this story, inside both the book and the album. I might be wrong though, it's just a personal level interpretation and I focused in that particular line only. I still have to read about Fellini. |

I think this song also might be about a boy who is unhappy with his girlfriend because she doesn't show that she cares about him. If she did he wouldn't be feeling so miserable. "When I'm like this how can you be smiling and saying: How can you be sure I don't want you?" So basically it could be a relationship were the boy is always uncertain and at the end of the song he decides he doesn't want her anymore for this reason. |

This song reminds so much my last relationship with a guy which ended a few months ago, I was going through rough times when we were seeing each other and I didn't have the courage to explain him why I was going so weird on him. Both of us were very similar to each other and I guess I was too proud to ask him for help and he was too proud to offer me a hand. With time I became someone different and eventually we couldn't see each other anymore. He dissappeared one day and it left me all angry and bitter..this song describes just the way I feel sometimes when I remember. It was not his fault entirely and I bet he must have felt the same way since I kind of abandoned/ignored him as well. It makes me want to find him again to tell him all these lines Manson wrote :P Also, I found it funny that I met him the day of my 20th birthday, that he gave me his Donnie Darko movie and days later a copy of his High End of the Low cd as presents..The first song he made me listen to was Devour, it was awesome. Anyways I write stuff like this here because my best friend is tired of hearing about it. And with good reason cheers ;) |

| In Trent Reznor's song "Ruiner" he repeats "you didn't hurt me, nothing can stop me now" several times until the song's cut at "stop" which effectively means no matter what he said or how powerful he felt he was stopped after all, it's the same effect regardless of the word though...I'll stick with the "starve" ending... but anyway this song is amazing, Manson does have his own romantic style in this one and I can listen to it all day and never get tired of it. | |

I think as well this song talks about a child born with some sort of mental disease, that doesn't allow him to be a normal kid "with a skateboard" so at that point I agree with songmeanings135...On the other hand with "I can't put the needle in" maybe he means that in a way he wants to fix those "ripped and torn" jeans/disease (by sewing them up) to be normal but he can't do it. And finally when he says "Too scared to talk, too scared to try until friends say bye bye... I think he recognizes friends and people in general always end up giving up on him because they are not able to understand him since he cant communicate his feelings... |
