| The first time I heard this song, I was driving and couldn't really pick out all of the words, but, "a glass can only spill what it contains" definitely caught my attention. It hit me so hard because I was extremely burnt out from trying to pour into everyone around me without being filled and refreshed myself. I just kind of realized how void of life I had become, and how I needed to be much more intentional in my relationships from there on out. I have nothing good to offer when I drain myself by constantly thinking that I have to perform, and be perfect. It's pretty ridiculous. Through my relationships with God and my closest friends, I can reach the point where I am constantly able to pour out because I am being constantly poured into. A glass can only spill what it contains is a daily reminder for me. I know that this song is about a multitude of things. Definitely enjoyed reading your thoughts on this. Mewithoutyou is definitely becoming a must for me. I have also been getting into Pedro the Lion. He's got some good stuff to say as well. | |

I've seen a lot of women struggle with their body image. Sisters, friends, girlfriends. It's a reality of this generation, probably more than ever. It's crazy because every guy has these expectations of and for women, good and bad. Some guys openly compare what they find attractive, and what they find ugly, thinking that their words have no consequences. The media, and everyday conversations has helped to construct a type of "perfect" girl. When we meet her, we see what we, society, has done. Barely clothed, ribs kicked in, OUR MEANS. We, i suppose both guys and girls, have added to this image. We never thought that our words, thoughts, and implications could have had such a negative effect on how women view and treat themselves. We never thought that we would meet her, and now that we have, maybe it's too late. We slide further and further from the truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I don't know. This is just something that crossed my mind when I listened to it. I like your interpretation, "CricketJar." Definitely makes sense. Anyway, take it or leave it. |
