Massive Attack – Black Milk Lyrics 14 years ago
At first hearing I thought it's the animals talking to humans in general. Think of it as a vegetarian's anthem LOL. "Black milk" is interesting, the paradox clearly alludes to some sort of distortion of reality, or a dystopia where something so pristine white like milk is turned black (it's blue in Star Wars though) :P

Regina Spektor – Raindrops Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this is about a girl admiring someone from afar. The guy is oblivious ("You don't know but that's okay") but she still has some hope that someday, they will meet in a conventional manner ("You might find me anyway"). She thinks she's being irrational for liking someone from afar ("I don't know where does it go?") and she thinks it won't go anywhere, but she can't help how she's feeling.

"People searching glance to glance" is really but her way of saying that everyone is just searching for that special connection. "They sing, raindrops falling on my head/But that doesnt mean that i am dead" is saying that although people have their bad days, life still goes on and people continue whatever they're fighting for.

Radiohead – Subterranean Homesick Alien Lyrics 15 years ago
It really just depends on what the song means to you? For me it's definitely a metaphor about Alienation. Feeling like an alien and being homesick for someplace you haven't even been to. Hence "take me on board their beautiful ship, show me the world as I'd love to see it". The thing about telling his friends and them not believing is a metaphor to show that no one understands his feeling of alienation and everyone would just dismiss him as a misfit or "lost it completely". "Uptight" obviously refers to the society in which he can't fit in.

I love how he describes the society he lives in with the first stanza. It's so descriptively depressing. :( "High up above aliens hover / Making home movies for the folks back home" could refer to tourists who see the city he lives in with a rose-tinted view hence the home movies...

"Of all these weird creatures who lock up their spirits / Drill holes in themselves and live for their secrets" what a great description of how he feels everyone around him has no soul and just living blindly, without "spirits" -- further aggravating his feeling of alienation because he doesn't wanna be stuck in the same dreariness.

"I'd show them the stars and the meaning of life / They'd shut me away" It's basically about the alienated guy feeling like he wants to find his home out there in space and show the others this wonderful life out there, but people would just dismiss him as a threat to society's calm lifelessness thus he needs to be locked up physically, in contrast to the others having their spirits "locked up" in their morose existence.

My personal favourite song from Radiohead because I can relate to it in so many ways. :)

Ingrid Michaelson – Men of Snow Lyrics 15 years ago
I think you guys are right, this is about her saying that life is short and that whatever we do in it, we'll all melt, one day. It's a sort of reminder to live life to the fullest.

However, despite the lyrics, I also feel it is a hopeful song from the way she sings it. "Oh, one day you will go away from this / Oh, one day you will know we're men of snow, we melt one day" sounds very hopeful and encouraging, like one day, things will be better, you'll get through whatever sadness you're feeling.

Ingrid Michaelson – Mosquito Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's more about the speaker knowing that she shouldn't taste a forbidden fruit but still wants it anyway, even though it's poisonous, e.g. a relationship that is possessive-obsessive, but she loves it being desired even though it may hurt her sometimes. Just my two cents.

I guess it's about a nerdish bookworm type who gets bullied in school, but the pretty redhead still sticks by him. Sounds like Spiderman's Peter Parker and Mary Jane come to think of it.. haah

Ingrid Michaelson – Are We There Yet? Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree with nesty28 on this one. Home is either literally a place to call home or metaphorically a person who makes you feel like you belong somewhere the most.

These lines

"I guess I haven't found my home."
"And are we there yet?
Home, home, home, home."
"Well, I am waiting to make
somebody, somebody soon."

suggest that the speaker hasn't found this home yet.

"Are we there yet?" betrays impatience but at the same time anticipation for this home.

"Where you will lie on the rug
while I play with the dog.
And you won't be too much
because this is too much."

Shows that even though the speaker has never found this home before, she doesn't expect it to be bombastic but rather low-key by using the imagery of just chillin' together with the pet one lazy afternoon.

I really love this song. :) Simple but meaningful lyrics and tune.

Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics 15 years ago
My fave lines have to be "fond but not in love", "Nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate, nothing so childish", "a pig in a cage on antibiotics".I think they encapsulate perfectly the repression of being human, of passions, of feeling alive. In order to achieve the ideal lifestyle, people must sacrifice such passions and end up feeling cold and empty.

Yes, do not listen to OK computer when feeling depressed. No matter how cathartic it may be, it only deteriorates the depression.

Genius from Radiohead.

Radiohead – Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this is about people waiting and waiting for something great and fantastic to come to their lives (passionate love, tons of money, etc etc) but never getting it. At the end of their lives they realise they're been pursuing the wrong things. "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case, get off my case" expresses the frustration of the individual with life. I think the title refers to the feeling this kind of people get for the rest of their lives waiting and waiting relentlessly for something that is never gonna come.

Radiohead – I Might Be Wrong Lyrics 16 years ago
The beauty of Radiohead songs is that it spawns so many interpretations in different people. To me I interpret it as about a pessimist who thought he saw a glimmer of hope and that he "might be wrong". He's having problems but basically the song is just about taking things easy ("think about the good times", "let's go down the waterfall") and thinking that whatever the problem is "it's nothing at all".

"Cry then begin again". How optimistic :)

Just my two cents, I might be wrong ;)

Definitely about one of her ex-husbands. She's talking about how she was very in love with him. I wonder who it is who is "still worrying your mother" :/

Michael Jackson – Remember the Time Lyrics 16 years ago
The song by itself is about a guy telling a girl to recall their good memories. But if you watch the video, the subliminal message is asking us to "remember the time" of the zenith of Africa which was the ancient Egypt civilisation -- people tend to differentiate the two and forget that Egypt is part of Africa. He is obviously pro-black, despite what the media says. Just my two cents.
