| Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics

Sorry for the double post, but again, it's not about homosexuality, or heterosexuality, or ANYTHING like that. The persona is deliberately ambiguous because when you're a kid, none of that matters, there's no sex involved in anything, everything is simpler and easier.
I just want to say how much I love the backseat line. I mean, who has never felt like that before? Feeling so sad, or so happy, that you think you'll never be able to sleep again, but managing to do so, and feeling bitter, and disappointed about it. "Oh, admiration in falling asleep."
I love this man. |

Some of these interpretations of the song are ridiculous. This song seems quite clearly to be a reflection of childhood innocence, and how it changes over the years. Then apply it to Illinois, the state the entire album is about, and what do you get? You get quite a bittersweet commentary on the USA.
He's truly an amazing lyricist, never a poet, but a pure LYRICIST. |

the song is about childhood innocence and falling in love with your best friend, probably written from a female perspective, and losing it, for whatever reason. There are some truly beautiful lines here, not just "we were in love"s, which tug at my heartstrings every time, but "Oh admiration in falling asleep," - who's never felt that they'll never be able to sleep because of the sadness, but then they wake up the next morning, and hate themselves for it? the tragedy of the loss of innocence, lost love, lost friendships, lost chances...the song captures it all. it's truly amazingly beautiful. |

to those of you saying he's being sarcastic...well, let's just say this is as open and honest as a song can possibly be, because max is really opening himself up here, and showing just how vulnerable he is. "What can I do for you? Just say, Maxim, I love you, I need you, and no one will do but you." everyone needs to hear that sometimes, and the way max has put into words is beautiful. |

an acoustic version of in a jar? really? i don't think it's terribly likely...it's heavily bass dependent and well, the guitars...it won't really work acoustically i think. |

yeah there are forest/fire references in almost every single song. there is a reason for it, but we really need to see the lyrics booklet. there had BETTER be a lyrics booklet this time, or i'll go nuts. |

nice try. you got more than i did. i think it's 'she said goodbye to the ground' though, and that he says something about fifteen slices of bread, not fifty thousand degrees.
this song is crazy hectic. |
