There's lots of little pieces that mean different things to me, and many others still unclear, but this part: darling, we will be fine, but what was yours and mine appears to be a sandcastle that the gibbering wave takes I've always thought of this part as the sandcastle being their love or relationship that was destroyed by the wave which would represent something that brought them apart, like a major outside problem or just their own relationship that doesn't work, etc. But just now as I read it again, I got this idea.. The sandcastle is their life, and the gibbering wave is death. sandcastles are fragile structures, like life itself, that can easily crumble down. The sand represents no only what the sandcastle (life) is made of, but the time we have to live (the sand inside a sand clock). You can see a wave coming (you know death will eventually come) and once it comes it takes that fragile sandcastle (life) and all the sand crumbles down; you have to build a new one (flip the clock again) and so on. Ahh I'm tired and don't know how to explain this. Hope it makes some sense.. Either way, I think both work. Love is a fragile "structure" just like life, so the sandcastle could represent either one of those. And just as you know death will come, you can also sometimes see problems coming and know that they will eventually destroy that life or relationship. Anyways, this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. |

I keep being facinated by her lyrics, they are all sooo emotional and so deep and have such power. Everyone here is right, this is about a relationship, it could be about any type of relationship, between two people and one of them is abusive, it could be about drugs-it most likely is- ,it could be about a friend thats involved in bad stuff and you get dragged down by it and end up trying bad stuff too. But I think this song is most likely talking about drugs because of the line that says " He's crushing my knuckles/ Splitting my skin, he says he'll let go If only I'd ask it of him " .Like banditqueen said, the "splitting my skin" part could be a reference to heroin or some other drug. But I also think it's refering to drugs because of the part that says "he says he'll let me go if only I'd ask it of him" and "Sometimes I'm tempted/ I would be lying if I said I didnt miss that giant man/ He was the line between pleasure and pain". It's basically saying that If only she had the strenght to say Enough then the "big giant man" (the drugs) would "let her go". And "He was the line between pleasure and pain" it's saying that the drugs gave her pleasure when she was in pain by making her forget about it and if she didnt take them she was gonna have to just face the pain. But it's obviuosly worst to take the drugs cuz thats much more destructive than the pain, even if the pain is really hard to bear, the drugs are just destroying her. And yeah, "Sometimes she's tempted" but thankfully she's become strong enough not to go back to that. "But me and my feet have some years to reclaim" Amazing lyrics. |

I cant stop listening to this song. The lyrics are sooo amazing! Somebody put me back in school, I forget everything I used to know know to leave the boy behind Without having to watch him go (i keep singing this part, love it!) and The rhythm of a strangers skin thats one of my favourite phrases, 6 words that have so much meaning behind them, the sentence could implie soo many things, it's like you can almost feel the emotion of the person saying it. He holds a certain gesture when we're loving to ask each other Do you want it? Do you want me? I want it, it is you, you are where I want to be. that one too is so great! and especially the part where it says :I want it, it is you. It's like the other person asks what is IT? and she replies : IT is you and you are where i want to be. Idk..maybe thats no reallythe way i was trying ot explain but whatever. i just love that whole piece.:P I might be wrong about this, but I think that in this song she also feels like her family and her friends are always telling her how she should behave and who she should be with and like they try to manage her life and she just doesnt want to listen to them anymore,she's tired of people trying to manage her life, she wants to be free. She cant take the pressure anymore. The first paragraph made me think this: We were too wasted to close the window (they were too drunk to remember to close the window and it sounds like for once she just didnt care if they saw) Friends and family looking in to my only hiding place The rhythm of a strangers skin (thats what makes me thing what i explained, like her friends and family where looking into her only hiding place, her only hiding place is the rhythm of a strager's skin. The stranger she is spending the night with is like her escape. The escape from the pressure everyone puts on her. And more because later on she realizes that she actually has real feelings for this person and thats why she says: Somebody put me back in school, I forget everything , i used to know how to leave the boy behind without having to watch him go. Anyway.. i might be completly wrong, but thats what the first part of the song made me think. |

I absolutely love the original version of this song, the one she did when she was in the jazz band called Crisp. That version should be more famous, it's amazing! whoever didnt listen to it yet go to this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxClYV6wZpI and I cant find the mp3 version anywhere! :'( :'( anyway.. her voice is amazing, everytime i hear her songs i love her more! and yeah.. this song is very self explanatory. i still really like this version but the other one is amazing. love sia |
