First off, John Petrucci wrote the lyrics to this masterpiece. Second, at least a good part of this song has to do with the time DT and Queensryche went on tour together. Queensryche's guitar player was trying to give JP tips on how to play guitar, and John said "Fuck Off" basically. |

In the beginning, the character gets into the car during a storm and is driving somewhere. The weird guitar/synth noises could be the actual crash. The synthy sound afterwards is the immediate aftermath, representing the character in a daze of sorts. The rest of the song is him reflecting. Sounds simple the way I put it, but this makes sense to me. |
