| CHVRCHES – The Mother We Share Lyrics | 12 years ago |

This song is powerful and absolutely brilliant. I'm confident of my comment to song meaning as follows: She is always speaking as mother earth, and always directing to you (anyone). Earth can't speak to us or work against us, only be inhabited. Soon our selfish ways are going to get the best of us (you and mother earth), however mother earth will continue on and balance - after we stirr. She is knowledgeable and understands what's going on, but can't help what is happening - as she's in no control. She won't stop you even if she could, because she won't ever want to hurt your pride in what you want to do. In fact, we can work together and take it easy - have an adventure for awhile long, but we're in vain and heading straight to our old omens (origination of religious preaching - hell) - irony. Mother earth is in misery, a tragic word which can only come from something good having to suffer for good. When we bring it to ourselves and remove ourselves from this earth, all we have to leave mother earth to remember us by are our bones, its souvenir. |

Ah! Forgot to add that "knowing is half the battle". By that I mean this being a "song", the concordance of expression and lyrics, words are only half the meaning. The other half is in her expression. Listen to how she expresses her lyrics! |

This was the first song I heard from Holly Brook (through Pandora!) and I gotta say, I thought she was a lesbian until I heard her other songs and some of the comments that was said on this board (taciturn). Please consider my interpretation (line-by-line): Now I've come to cry Shed your skin to rest my naked eye and criticize All that I implore seems to be one foot outside that door Coming between me and waking ^|>She's crying because life is tough on her. She's going through some difficult times. ^|>The eye is pure, innocent, and peaceful. Shed your skin may mean to take off everything that people consider you by (how they identify you). How ugly the world could be, she closes her eyes to "shed" the "cover" of the perception. ^|>And criticize they will, won't they? ^|>And all that she proclaims out ^|>She begins to wonder if her reactive defenses would drain her dignity. ^|>She's caught between being herself or conforming to the world's order. Underneath the corset of your mystery Piece by piece, undress you from your history I'm sleeping with seclusion in sweet disarray ^|>Beneath all that "covers" of what you see is only mystery to you. ^|>Piece-by-piece, people try to tear you so they can try to "understand" how you became. ^|>No trouble. Sleeping in harmony tonight, non the less, bitter or sweet. You can go heavy on me And I will not weigh you down, down, down You can be steady and clean I can take it heavy on me And I will not weigh you down ^|>Dream on passion ^|>I'm no bother to you ^|>Whether you come ready or distressed ^|>I can take it ^|>I will be there ^|>I won't let you down Born unto this pride Silence is something you can't hide You can't deny us, oh Nothing has been said, yet so many words have filled my head Now they completely surround me ^|>Born into this "God-Complex" ^|>Even Apathy is something you cannot help but acting ^|>It's in your nature to believe and desire ^|>Nothings been outspoken ^|>Yet you're completely surrounded by instances Tie the lines of honest conductivity Caught between the center of our gravity I don't have that much time to burn anymore ^|>Live and learn to connect your future ^|>And when it's over, you'll find yourself centering yourself into the promise land ^|>There's not much more I "should" say. |
