There are many interpectations of this song and the chorus "The trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead," but whatever you feel meaning of the song is you have to agree that this is a great song. To me the chorus's meaning is similar to the pharse "The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men Often Go Astray." Leading into each chorus the singer sings about a problem that is occuring to himm, "But now books are overdue and the goats are underfed." I do not think that this is the only theme that occurs in this song nor do I think that this is the only message mewithoutyou is trying to say.

The general idea behind this song is that Jay-Z feels that todays rappers are too soft ("i am a multi millionaire so how is it im still the hardest nigga here"), and that he is offically "killing" auto-tunes so that rappers (like Kayne) can "get back to rap" ("yeah this death of auto tune moment of silence").

After Ice Cube leaf NWA he wrote this song, "No Vasline", to publically diss the remaning members of NWA (espcially Eazy E). No Vasline increase the tension between Ice Cube, Eazy E and Dr Dre. In time all three of them wrote there own diss tracks against each other, but most people will agree that out of all the diss tracks wrote between the three the best was No Vasline. |
