| Paramore – Turn It Off Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
This song is about realizing that God's way was right all along. I wanna know what it'd be like To find perfection in my pride To see nothing in the light I'll turn it off, in all my spite In all my spite, I'll turn it off This part is talking about wishing that sin was the right thing to do. Don't we all wish that the crappy stuff we did was considered good or fine. It would remove the need for redemption. And the worst part is Before it gets any better We're headed for a cliff And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off When I hit the bottom This part is talking about how sometimes we have to hit the bottom of the barrel of rebellion before we realize we should have been living the right way from the start. It often takes a bottoming out in life for us to wake up from the delusion of selfishness & sin. The tragedy, it seems unending I'm watching everyone I looked up to break and bending There are so many people who say they are Christians but have no idea what being a Christian means. Some people talk about relationship, others about social justice, but in the end, Jesus just wants us to follow what the Father said. It's not about wishful thinking that empowers us to be "good" or "win" at life. Being a Christian is about accepting what Jesus claimed (that He's the God that made us and that He's in charge) and modifying our minds and behavior to follow. We're taking shortcuts and false solutions Just to come out the hero So many times I've acted "Christian" for my own grandeur or selfish reasons... shortcutting the truth of God for my own distorted version. Sad, to be sure. Well, I can see behind the curtain (I can see it now) The wheels are cranking, turning It's all wrong, the way we're working Towards a goal that's non-existent It's not existent, but we just keep believing So many people miss the truth of God's Word, its becoming an epidemic. The lack of education is killing the Church... our wheels are cranking but we have no idea why. Everyone is trying to be "good" but no one gets how it really works. God is not therapy. He's not here to make us feel better, the non-existent goal. The Spirit shows us the dirt in our souls so that it can be swept out. That's not therapy. It's an overhaul of the mind, the demolition of the lies that we have been fed since the Fall. And the worst part is Before it gets any better We're headed for a cliff And in the free fall I will realize I'm better off When I hit the bottom (x2) |

| Supertones – Return Of The Revolution Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I love this song. It gets me so pumped up to preach. This song is a great synopsis of the collapse and remedy of the American church's apathy to reality. People need to WAKE UP! "Sleepers, open your eyes!" Men have died for the freedom we have today, and we are just wasting it sitting in front of TV sets while our cars and wrists proclaim our watered-down, uneducated "faith" in Christ, the Word of God that came to us to FREE US. The One who died for our ultimate freedom wants more than just a few hours of our time each week. The Father has so much better for us than this. Rise up, sleepers! The time is now! "So what about you? Will you join us?" "Can't turn back the clock, but we can turn the tables." | A Change of Pace – Asleep At The Wheel Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is about questioning why bad things happen to people. Essentially, the author is questioning why God doesn't intervene when bad things happen that are out of a person's control. The Problem of Evil is a central question to the philosophical debate on the existence of God. Why would a perfect, loving God (the Judeo-Christian god specifically) allow people to suffer? Its not an easy question to answer, especially since the solution to evil seems to only be found in God. If you would like more clarity to this debate, please research works by Alvin Plantinga. He's given the most convincing philosophical arguments in the most understandable way. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – Joy! Joy! Joy! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"I believe in" and "I've read every page" "Every syllable the same Every letter, every line" This song is about the heart of the Christian worldview, about holding to the core doctrines of the Bible, specifically Biblical historicity and inerrancy. When you define your worldview by the reality of God and his purposes for us, it definitely shapes your life. This song is a lyrical declaration of his adherence to this worldview. "Hey, Shar? Yes, Sufjan? So, what do you believe in? Oh, a lot of things Oh yeah, like what? Well, peace and justice for all" The dialogue between Sufjan and his friend speak of the postmodern mentality that Christianity is simply a philosophy or moral ideology. There is a common idea held by postmodernism and orthodox Christianity, mainly that "God wants us to be nice (peaceful) to each other and have a good time (joy)," which is mostly true. However, the Christian worldview of how to end up at that goal of joy and peace is completely opposite of all other worldviews. "I believe in peace" & "joy" The culmination of the Christian worldview is that God redeems His people, leading us to peace and joy, amidst and in spite of the tragedy of the Fall and of sin. If everyone was a practicing Christian, the world would have more peace and joy. Sufjan is proclaiming his belief in that ultimate end result of God's plan for humanity. If you find meaning in Sufjan's music, please take the time to read the Gospels, particularly Luke. Know that there are large bodies of scientific (historical) evidence for the accuracy of Luke's paritial biography of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God. |

| Sufjan Stevens – Christmas in July Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
These are the correct lyrics: If I missed my chance, I didn't even try I'm not one to regret Christmas in July. If my timing is bad, like a fish on a bike, Would you let me pretend: Christmas in July? I'm not one to admit; I'm not one to fight, Maybe I was wrong, or maybe I was right Like when I went to school, drinking coffee at night, And I did what I did; now I do what I like. Open the champagne, party and pensive Your mother said it's very expensive Do what you want to, don't even ask us Paraguay, Boston, Philly, Damascus Maybe its the snow, the endless winter nights And the winter coat, the one you never liked But I'll take the sun and I'll take my kite, Christmas on the beach, Christmas in July And I love my friends, even if they fight Christmas in July, just to keep them quiet And I love you too, I love you through the night But now that you're away, Christmas isn't right Don't take offenses; come to your senses, Your confidence is straddling fences If I miss my chance, I didn't even try I'm not one to regret Christmas in July |
