There is no doubt it is about Sid. He ate a bit too much acid and never came back effectivly trading a "Walk on part in the war" (being a member of the band) for "A lead roll in a cage" (with was his own head). Sid was Pink Floyd in the earlier (and in my opinion better) years and made some compelling solo music after his ouster from the band. On a side note Sid apperently walked into the session for Dark Side of the Moon and the rest of the band didn't even recognize him at first. Sureal is must have been to be recording "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and have the insperation walk into the room and unrecognizable ghost of himself. |

The "I lost my harmonica, Albert" may be a reference to a '64 Dylan show where he was quite intoxicated and forgot the words to "It's Ok Ma" and then lost his harmonica during "Tambourine Man". I love the 3rd verse that makes fun of us hipsters in general. I love Bob Dylan and appreciate his great writing and social commentary but Dylan Thomas is a literary genius. Bobby knew this as well and reportedly borrowed his name. |
