My interpretation of this folk song is someone explaining to his or her younger sibling how their family (mother, father, and brother) died while trying to look strong for them. That would explain the change from the traditional lyrics switching the name "Willie" with mamma, brother, daddy, it would also explain the use of the major sonority with such sad lyrics. |
