| Yes, you are correct. Whoever typed up these lyrics made a lot of mistakes. | |
| Joanna Newsom – '81 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song is about Joanna Newsom's birth and the religious implications it has/had on her life and the life of her mother. It also talks about her return to her roots from the fame she's received. "i found a little plot of land in the Garden of Eden" She took her place in the world - her mother's womb. She "tilled it" with her very own, and no one could take that place from her. "the whole place had just cleared right out it was hotter'n hell, so i lay me by the spring for a spell, as naked as a trout" In the womb, it was "hotter'n hell" - thus she was born "as naked as a trout". "the wandering eye that i have caught is as hot as a wandering sun but i will want for nothing more in my garden; start again" The "wandering eye" could be the fame, or where she's gotten since leaving the "Garden of Eden". It's time to "start again". "we are gonna have ourselves a time we are gonna have a garden party it's on me no siree, it's my dime" I assume she's talking about giving back, in my opinion, to her mother, who put up with a lot in the process. Perhaps she also means to the people who have helped her get to where she is. "we broke our hearts in the war between St. George and the dragon," This is a story about St. George saving the princess from the dragon - the result is that the city in the story converted from paganism to Christianity. Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._George#Saint_George_and_the_dragon "but both in equal parts are welcome to come along i'm inviting everyone" No matter what side people are on (believing that innocence is lost with making love OR the lack of such belief), Joanna is accepting. "tell me, what is meant by sittin' alone in a garden" Again, getting out of the spotlight. After all, she's succeeded in this (for the most part) for over two years... "a garden, seceded from the Union in the year of '81?" Joanna Newsom was born in January, 1982, meaning that she would have been conceived in 1981. At that time, her mother "seceded" her innocence by no longer being a virgin (assuming Joanna was a first-born). I assume she was the first child, but either way, this is the only tie I can make to 1981, and it's a rather personal one at that. "the unending amends you made are enough for one life; be done" Enough beating yourself up about it... "i believe, regardless i believe in everyone " She places a belief on the human being, not the belief within. That's what I think, at least. Regardless, this is a gorgeous song. I preordered the 3xLP the day it opened, and I will never regret that $25. |

| Erik Enocksson – The Dark Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Such a beautifully sad song... | |
| Erik Enocksson – Think of Me as the Sea Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song was really hard to figure out at times, so there might be some incorrect lyrics. If you think you know better, I'd really like to hear your thoughts. | |
| Why? – Gemini (Birthday Song) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think this song (along with a number of Yoni's other songs) is about him getting older. | |
| Patrick Wolf – Don't Say No Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Does anyone else feel that this song is a bit uncharacteristic for Patrick Wolf? I mean, it still has the Wolf feel, but it feels somehow different than even the other songs on Lycanthropy. Great song, though. |

| Joanna Newsom – Swansea Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Whatever it means, I love the word play and elegantly poetic use of sounds here. Lines like the following just get me: and yonder, wild and blue the wild blue yonder looms Every time I hear it, I'm reminded of this woman's awesome talent. And this song is particularly interesting in that it's followed by Three Little Babes, which has a much harsher and more straight forward tone. |

| Why? – These Hands Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| You can also notice his obsession with mentioning the clothes he wears. | |
| Joanna Newsom – Esme Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I really like this song. I wonder what it's going to be called in the end. She's said before that this is not the title of the song. I really hope her new album comes out in September like rumored. |

| Bon Iver – Beach Baby Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Just because it's on the back of the EP doesn't mean it's correct. There are constantly errors in liner notes. Someone other than Bon Iver may have typed them up for him, or he could have made a mistake, or he could have used an older version, etc. I think you're being a bit idiotic here... he most certainly says "I'd like not to hear keys." The "to" is definitely in there. The melody doesn't even work out without that extra syllable. Come off your high horse, ass. |

| I really really love this song. At first, I thought the material on Blood Bank was good, but not amazing. Listening to it more, though, I have come to the conclusion that this is definitely one of my top three Bon Iver songs. Even if the words were nonsense, I'd feel an emotional connection to this song. | |
