Mark Knopfler – So Far From the Clyde Lyrics 15 years ago
I've been trying to understand the story. What does the hangman do? What happens to the crew aboard the ship?
Also, does it remind anyone else of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald? (There is the obvious ship theme but also the tone and the melancholy feel.)

Mark Knopfler – Piper to the End Lyrics 15 years ago
This always reminds me of my boyfriend who plays the pipes. We've been together almost two years, mostly long-distance.
What a beautiful song. It sounds like autumn. I can't believe I'm the first to comment.

Mark Knopfler – The Ragpicker's Dream Lyrics 15 years ago
I can't believe no one has commented on this song yet! In my opinion it is one of his most beautiful, soothing songs.
I always listen to it at Christmas just because of the many obvious references - it always brings back a feeling of peace and family.

Robert Downey Jr. – The Futurist Lyrics 15 years ago
Robert Downey Jr. is amazing and this is his most incredible song, in my opinion. The chorus sounds so soothing and uplifting and the lyrics themselves are quite deep.
I love him so much!! <3

Owl City – The Christmas Song Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's about a guy who comes home to his childhood home for Christmas and feeling lonely because he doesn't feel quite at home there anymore, so he goes out for a walk by himself and meets a girl walking alone as well, so they spend the holidays together.
I like to think they spend every Christmas after together too :)

Chris Isaak – Graduation Day Lyrics 16 years ago
I took it more literally, I thought it was about a pair of high school sweethearts who graduate and go to university and split up. made me very sad

R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts Lyrics 16 years ago
hey, did anyone catch that episode of NCIS with this song in it? it was such a powerful use of the song. every time I get depressed or worried or scared I just turn off the lights and put this song on repeat until I fall asleep. it's just so...comfortable, I guess would be the word for it, like letting the fear and sorrow go and relaxing into something big and warm. your troubles aren't going anywhere, but it can't hurt to remember once in a while that everybody hurts and it's okay to cry.

short version: I love it :)

R.E.M. – Hairshirt Lyrics 16 years ago
whenever I would feel guilty about something, my grandma would tell me not to wear a hair shirt...she said it meant not to be a martyr. I just saw this song and had to check it out. :)

R.E.M. – So Fast, So Numb Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought this song was about someone, a jaded person, who has been hurt countless times by people who supposedly love them. they've been dropped and kicked and beaten down too many times to love again...and then they find the real deal, actual love, they can't accept it because they can no longer trust, thus hurting the person who really loves them. just my take. hence the blood running cold and "I've played your lover".

yeah...if you hate the song then just leave it alone.

Dropkick Murphys – The State of Massachusetts Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought it was "you can have your children FOR the night" as in a trade. As in, you can have your children if you stop having such a crazy nightlife.

wow, yeah, I guess this song could apply to your friend's situation too. I never thought of it that way, I always thought about it in the context of my grandma. thanks!

Josh Groban – Weeping Lyrics 16 years ago
to me, this song is about someone with some kind of tortured past or dark secret that they don't want anyone to find out about, but they still show signs and people wonder why ("they were curious to know about the smoke and flame"). maybe they leave the smoke in the air on purpose, because people know that where there is smoke there is fire, and they secretly want to be healed? stonewalling people ("He built a wall of steel and flame/And men with guns, to keep it tame") only works for a little while, but no man is an island, no matter how hard he tries. just my take on this great song.

Paul McCartney – Calico Skies Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song so much. I first read it in a book of Paul McCartney poetry and I wasn't sure if he ever made a song from it. Now that I've heard it, I love it even more! I especially like the comparison of lovers to soldiers in the last stanza. It's true, loving someone is dangerous, but if you don't take the risk, there's nothing to live for. Just my thoughts.

Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics 16 years ago
I was just visiting my grandma in the hospital, she was originally in for H1N1 swine flu, but she was also suffering from diabetes and late stage CLL leukemia. She was so brave, she fought for as long as she could, but I watched her die peacefully after a shot of morphine that let her sleep and gave her a break from the pain. This song describes perfectly what my grandma went through before she died.
"When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins"
To me those lines describe how I felt after she died. And for her the pain did weigh out the pride, green day puts it perfectly. It seems to be describing a fight that is obviously a lost cause, but the fighter has chosen to give up and die with dignity as opposed to begging for life. Even the vocals sound so sad and proud. She deserved a 21 gun salute. I love both this song and my grandma.
