Don't take these lyrics at face value. First, a list of the heavy woes of life, then the simple tongue-in-cheek solution: Listen to my band. “Wilco will love you” is making a promise the singer can’t possibly keep. He knows it, and he knows you know he knows it. He's saying, sorry, I can't really help you. The message of the song is a joke, the title of the song is a joke, the title of the album is a joke, and even the name of the band is a joke: “Wilco” in aviation slang means “will comply,” a funny name for any rock band, especially one that pushes the envelope like....Wilco. And yet they’re also serious. |
