It definitely seems people are jumping on the context of sex and ignoring the actual message of the song. It's about love, and sex is apart of love and relationships. He's at the age where this is especially true, and so, he writes about it. He's extremely relevant in that way, writing music that actual reflects his age and his beliefs, for that matter. Above all else, I think he's a romantic, and he places his belief in love into the context of fun and enjoyment because that's the way it should be seen. Sex is not always a dirty thing you shouldn't talk about. It's not always a nasty thing that only disgusting people do and sing about. Sex is also part of love. Too often people are extremely immature on the subject because that's what pop culture tells them- to be ashamed. This song was actually the very first that really made me see him in a different light. He's a relevant, extremely talented artist who does not get the credit he deserves. He's often pigeonholed into this view of being a child, because of the show, but he is not only an adult, he's never claimed to be making music for young people, but people his age. Being fun loving and upbeat about life does not always mean childish. I seriously respect the direction he has gone in with his music, and I seriously look forward to the album he's working on now. |

| I actually think that this song may be about more than just a boyfriend. Possibly a husband or even a father. Regardless, I would say it's definitely a song about an abusive relationship that ends with the abuser's death, and in the wake, she has to find herself again. Wade through the pain and the damage she suffered, to find some worth in herself. | |

This song directly says to me that this person is conflicted by their own emotions. In context of a relationship, she's saying that this boy pursues her, and she wants to refuse him because she's with another, but at the same time, she feels something for him. Empathy perhaps. "Maybe I'll let you in" - "My heart's taken, I wont tell you again" But I think she does let him in, despite herself. "Trying to find an emotion you can not deny" Searching her behavior for love. A desperate attempt to connect them undeniably, as though to prove that they belong together. "I will not have him treat me this way" could be taken in different ways. I see it meaning, not that he treats her badly, but that she's becoming spoiled by his affections, or feeling more strongly towards him, because of the way he treats her. Again, despite her efforts to refuse, she can't. The parental blame is saying "It must be your fault that I am the way I am." The reason she's so conflicted, why she's empathetic and why, though she knows she shouldn't, she does feel something towards him. She blames her mother, particularly, for the way her mind works and in turn, blames her father for letting her do that. |

I believe that the lyric "the mountains can cover the shape of his nose" isn't an insult about his nose, but a play on words about his insecurities. She's saying, he wants to die in a place that will hide, what he considers, his faults. I also think that the change from "You're" to "I'm" to "We're ill" is perhaps a reflection on the fact that she has continued this merry go round with his manic depression. "My friends think I'm crazy" because I continue to do this, over and over. Knowing someone who is manic depressive put a lot of this into perspective the moment I heard it. It frighteningly describes my relationship with him, though we've never dated. I don't think these words necessarily have to reflect a lover's relationship. I also enjoy the theory that this is about her own manic depression, or another side of her. Songs like this one are very intriguing, she's an amazing poet with her lyrics. |

It seems to me that certain lines in this song reference a girl who seeks older men, but it's rather hard to determine if that's actuality or just how I keep hearing it. It doesn't make much sense against the line "we are young" so I'm going to assume it's actually a reference to her youthful behavior. Despite being a woman, she acts like a girl. Afraid of love and commitment perhaps, or just not understanding of it. I'm also pretty certain the line IS "Now he's gonna firefight, gotta cool the bad." The whole verse sounds like she's saying the girl has issues, and this man, like a father might, battles them. Perhaps, she starts the trouble and he has to calm it? Start a fire to cool? Also, I swear I keep hearing "just smoke my cigarette and hush" *laughs* I'm not hearing a "more" in there anywhere. Maybe my hearing is off. |

| Anyone else notice that the instrumentals to this song is the same background beat to Mary J. Blige's "No one will do"? | |
