I think that is made to match up the movie, but DB, as the artist he is, can't go on making songs without putting a touch of his soul or mind. So, I think that when he sings "Lost and lonely, That's underground, underground", he might as well be talking about the alienation of himself through his personalities: Ziggy, the White Duke and even Major Tom. Fantasy is great but is not real, so that can make you lost and lonely.
