and more extraordinary nobody has commented since either...? stunning song indeed. heard it first when i was in a dark place and, amongst other things of course, it really helped, sappy though that may sound, but hey. only criticism would be that his songwriting is stronger than his performing. on the one hand i wanted to share this with friends and say this is SUCH a great song, but on the other whilst it is indeed a fantastic song, his rendition is for me a little, dare i say it, 'wet'? hence i kept it to myself. this song is strong enough to be an anthem, but it needs somebody else to take it up. personally i it gets discovered and taken to a wider audience at a different level. |

good to hear you say all that, spot on. revisiting this from time to time is always as as good as the last encounter. when fish split, for me ay least, marillion ceased to exist. and sadly much as I adored his writing, fish without marillion was never quite enough either. a definite case of two halves making more than a whole |

great great song, and 'i got soul' you're right about it never getting old. so what of intepretation though? and old (now late) friend and i spent many hours kicking around whether it was about meeting your maker or about meeting the love of you life. i reckon both fit perfectly. run them through whilst listening... I did once manage to find an interview with the writer where the question was asked as it was driving us to distraction, but there was the usual mildly irritating "it means whatever you want it to" response. come on, you wrote it, you KNOW what it meant to you when you put pen to paper!!! |
