I remember this song as a kid, but reading the lyrics has made me love this song even. This song is very gothic, the music almost has a seductive obsessive feel to it. The asylum theory is really good and original. But strangely enough, this song fits in with my current situation too much for me to keep it to myself. I think it's about falling crazy in love with someone you know was gonna hurt you to the point of wanting to end it all. "I don't know why he's touching me" could mean touching her heart, but being unsure of his intentions. "I can't leave, he's got me" and "He's burning me" shows that she's now hooked, but that makes things worse. "All the world is a judge but that doesn't compare, to what I do to myself when you're not there" sounds like the relationship starts to get abusive and she results in self harming.
Whenever I hear someone screaming to god for help, I feel a sense of last resort desperation. "Just maybe, I'll learn to help myself, speak to me" sounds like a cry for any kind of help or the need to know he's listening.......which brings me to
"don't make me choose, I've got too much to lose". Throughout the whole song, she's begging god to help her. Probably to get some sign to stop herself from killing herself, coz life itself is a lot to lose.

Wow, I guess I'm the only one who doesn't think it's about a relationship!
When I first heard this, I was actually picturing a artist talking about a manager who wants to create a different image to what the artist is used to.
"you take the best things from me,
Then everything gets empty, That's not a world that I need" makes me think about writing so many songs that there's nothing genuine left within in that person anymore.

I reckon this poem is more about the death of a relationship, not necessary about a dead lover. The line "When you will dry another's tears" tells me he's not dead, but has left her.
I could clearly vision myself talking about my ex with this poem. When you're with someone for so long, it does feel like their presence is still there even when they leave you. |
