Something For Kate – The Futurist Lyrics 16 years ago
to me the second line sounds like

"no cold hard love saw his emotional abacus"

this would make it more directed at someone in particular, which would make a little sense since it's written about the government of the time.

I just remembered, in an earlier version he played of this, there's a short section after the "won't let the ship go down" part that finishes the song:

"I'll bet good money,
I'll bet some beautiful money that we
could agree
to disagree"

As you said, the album lyrics could be different, but I thought I'd add that little bit.

I think the line after "I've idled here as long as I can" goes "I've taken my entertainment like a man" rather than "taken my enter, taken it like a man".

I think also that the line goes, rather than "at the end of the elaborate drive", "at the end of the yellow brick drive".

Paul said once that he wrote this song to/about George W. Bush.

I believe in an interview once, Paul mentioned that the song was about wanting someone to give that one sentence that comes out of nowhere and completely blows you away.
