| Pet Shop Boys – Vampires Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
For me this song is about AIDS; a vampire creates another vampire by infecting its victim with a virus, and that is analogous to gay men infecting each other with HIV. "Brother, it don't matter," might be a reference of one positive man propositioning another, effectively saying that since "I'm a vampire, you're a vampire too" it doesn't matter if they get together as they're already infected. "Do what you want and then I can do it to you" is clearly a line about sex. It may even be about someone who wants to be infected; believe it or not, some men in the gay community consider it liberating to possess the HIV virus and actually set out to acquire it. |

| The Annie cover is pretty amazing. | |
| Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet Lyrics | 16 years ago |

"You and me babe How 'bouuut it?" Brilliant line. Best version of this song by quite some distance is the live cut off Alchemy, very emotional, and amazing musicianship throghout. The studio version feels a bit light to me after hearing it. |

| All changed. | |
| Jay-Z – Song Cry Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The version of this on 'Unplugged' is amazing. So emotional. | |
| Kylie Minogue – Better The Devil You Know Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| The above is a great theory...in theory. Can you imagine Pete Waterman writing a song about heroin? | |
| Annie – Heartbeat Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think anyone who is young and goes to clubs all the time can relate to this song. People are trying to pull you off the floor for drinks of to talk, but you can't tear yourself away from the certain girl/boy. | |
| Mobb Deep – Up North Trip Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Just a track about street life, avoiding police and prison, in keeping with the rest of the album. A simple bare beat with some of the best flow of the 90's. An 'up north trip' is being sent to jail. | |
| The-Dream – Kelly's 12 Play Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's a song about fucking to an R Kelly record. Album of the year quite easily for me. | |
| Nick Drake – The Thoughts of Mary Jane Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This is a beautiful song, but I don't think it's about cannabis, people are always looking too deeply into lyrics, especially to find meanings about drugs. Nothing except the name would suggest this being a hidden reference to grass, none of the other lines are at all relevant to that theory. I think it's just a nice, pretty pastoral lyric that fits with the folk backing, perhaps a character portrait of someone he knew. Either way, it's a beautiful song. |

| John Lennon – Jealous Guy Lyrics | 16 years ago |

"I was dreaming of the past And my heart was beating fast" Definately my favourite opening lines of all time. The meaning is obvious, how love so strong can lead to jealousy that can destroy a relationship. This is his apology for letting it get that far. However much we hate her, it's clearly about Yoko; she was the love of his life. |

Beautiful song, might be my favourite from the album. "Someday I know we'll meet again But I say that every summer and every summer is the summer closer further away" The best bit; such a wistful melody and words we can all relate to, when you've meant to stay in touch but somehow never get round to it, and it gets harder and harder as the years go on to make the first move. A song about a love from a long time ago that she remembers and craves only in her loneliest moments. She thinks the memory has gone, yet every now and again it recurs and recurs. |
