Emilie Autumn – Fight Like A Girl Lyrics 14 years ago
Can't really analyze it much other than there are two ways I take the lyrics, some of the lines sound very patient vs. doctor, while the obvious theme is remaining strong when you've been defiled or destroyed in a way such as rape in this case.

The thing I want to mention however is that while the studio version isn't out, there are differences in lyrics than the ones she posted and the ones she's singing live.

"If I end up with blood on my hands..."

And the major one being

"No mercy, it's a bit too late
The game is on, don't run, don't hide, don't wait."

She sings both these in every-single performance that's on youtube.

The Dresden Dolls – The Sheep Song Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah, I was going to reply, I came here to read some of the interpretations because I'm playing it on piano and my sheet music from the official book says these lyrics.

The Dresden Dolls – Slide Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, I remember an interview with Amanda somewhere (forget where and when it was, so I can't source it) and she said something about a slide being the perfect metaphor for losing your innocence. By that, I'm pretty much 100% sure its about a girl getting raped by a convicted criminal (you know those orange prison jumpsuit? That's my guess for why he's the "orange" man)

Marilyn Manson – Coma White Lyrics 15 years ago
Okay, here we go...

Marilyn Manson's music, mainly Holy Wood, Antichrist Superstar, and Mechanical Animals, is one big well-planned metaphor.

1. Omega is the persona that "Adam," Marilyn Manson, took on when his transformation was complete. Omega means "the end." Omega is this hollow rock star, becoming a "mechanical animal" in the end.
2. A mechanical animal being the people who depend on drugs, sex, TV, etc. for a fake happiness.
3. Coma White is a fictional representation of a girl who is the image of perfection, MM's love interest. At the end of Mechanical Animals, he realizes that Coma White doesn't exist, what he had been striving for is a lie.
4. Also take a look at Coma Black. It ties into the idea of Coma White as well.

The Dresden Dolls – Half Jack Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm sure she wrote it for her father. But the beauty of writing and music, is that you can take it any way you want, that way people can relate to it more.

I love this song, and I relate to it myself. I always think of Dissociative Identity Disorder, of course it's hard for me not to since I have it.

"You have to go provoke him...
I guess it's high time you found out."

"You'll notice something funny if you hang around here for too
Long ago in some black hole, before they had these pills to take it back..."

"Two halves are equal, a cross between two evils. It's not an enviable lot. But if you listen, you'll learn to hear the difference between the halfs and the half nots."

"I run as fast as I can run, but Jack comes tumbling after."

As much as you try to escape it, you're still only half/part of your person and personality.

"..Cause I'm not big enough to house this crowd. It might destroy me, but I'd sacrifice my body if it meant I'd get the Jack part out."

The first thing I did when I got home after being diagnosed, was trying to kill myself.

iamamiwhoami – Y Lyrics 15 years ago
She is a complete genius. Really.

At the end, I actually hear "I've seen the truth and it's nothing to be scared of" as the first line of that stanza.

Between the Trees – The Way She Feels Lyrics 16 years ago
I do not know where I'd be without this song.
I definitely cried the first time I heard it.

As for the religion thing, I went by the music video, not that it's her father, but that he was an actual person, cause I'm a hardcore atheist. I think of my boyfriend who is helping me through this hellhole of a life I have.

This is the song I sang to myself every night in the hospital, I was there of course for self-harm and suicide though against my will. I still want to cut so badly, but then I think about my boyfriend and I play this song. It's hard. I'm almost on my second month since the last time, I just hope I don't relapse again like I had before. But I can't promise myself, because I become a danger to myself every night.

Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved Lyrics 16 years ago
Of course, I don't have the time to look through 229 comments, but of the first two pages I didn't see anything relating to my view.

This song is one of the songs my boyfriend put on our playlist, and I can't help but to relate it to my situation, so I only see one meaning.

The girl is going through dark shit. Cruel, ensnaring depression. Self-harm even, in my case. And this guy loves her passionately and just wants to save her from the raging hurricane she faces on a daily basis.

Garbage – It's All Over but the Crying Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah, I do agree it is about a relationship ending. But, I'm surprised no one saw this...

"That we only love the things we own?
Baby, you're wrong"

Just wanted to contribute that I think she was still in this relationship, abused by him, and cheated on him because of the lack of affection he showed.

Nightwish – Sleepwalker Lyrics 16 years ago
I fell in love with the song because of the Phantom of the Opera references.

I really think it's another one of the masterfully-written Tuomas songs about sex. There are a few there, definitely, but I like songs that have a sexual reference without being completely tasteless like a lot of modern songs are.

Nightwish – Sleeping Sun Lyrics 16 years ago
I was overjoyed when I found sheet music for this, because then I could show it to my voice teacher. She's always known I love Nightwish, and she asked for me to make a mix cd for her to figure out my taste. I included "Sing For Me" by Tarja and "Ghost Love Score," but she has always though I listen to death metal. So I thought Sleeping Sun would be a big wake up call for her.

First listen, she looked at me and told me how gorgeous the song was, and that it had a celtic sound. Of course, that pleased me very much, to impress my classical music-loving cold voice teacher. So that's what we're working on currently, a wonderful break from Italian and Latin classical pieces I really wouldn't choose myself. Of course, she commented that I sing my best with Sleeping Sun and Phantom of the Opera, but not as much with songs such as Panis Angelicus. I can't find emotion in Latin Christian songs. But I sing it well because it's a beautiful song I passionately adore.

Point is, she asked me what it was about, and I always have to really focus to interpret Tuomas' poetic lyrics. She offered up that it was about vampires, which I thought was completely going back to the whole death metal thing, but she explained it and I saw how she saw it.

"I wish for this night-time to last for a life-time
The darkness around me - shores of a solar sea"

Wishing that the night would last forever, and "shores of a solar sea," the brink of morning, and...

"I`d sail before a thousand moons
Never finding where to go"

Aimlessly walking the earth for eternity.

Listening to the rest of the lyrics, you still see where she's coming from. I'm just offering it up. I still don't think of that meaning when listening, I still think of the solar eclipse.

Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics 16 years ago
I haven't gone through nine pages of comments, of course, but I'm wondering if anyone has the same interpretation as I do.

The song, at first listen, completely turned me off because I am in fact not Christian and strongly believing in just humanity and against the theory of there being gods.

I interpret it as a time in my life when I wasn't too sure either way. More breaking apart from my strongly Catholic family and exploring what my true beliefs were.

I have gone through depression since fourth grade, so I instantly bring that into my opinion. To me, the person in the pov of which this song is in is maybe suicidal, but most definitely depressed and self-harming, wondering if it is the only way to numb the pain. Wanting there to be a god, but maybe they are too far from the light to either feel his presence or hear his words of guidance and asking for some kind of salvation.

Yep. An Atheist's interpretation.
