| The explanations here are all just so self-satisfying, at most, amusing. They're mostly subjective to whoever posted them, nothing more. Even the self-righteous ones who think they have the same meaning as intended. It's basic psych really. I think that because of: "and the history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us" The "us" that wasn't mentioned was their love because it was the cutting of the hair that's usually mentioned "You are my sweetest downfall I loved you first" and It implied that not just of the sadness was in Samson's losing hair(strength), but of her fear of losing him. My opinion is that because (in the song's version, at least) that she loved him before anyone else did, maybe she cut his hair so that she could keep loving him, despite his strength, even if no one else did without it. And because she did that to keep him, everyone was against her, and that became her downfall. |

I think that seems to make not as much sense. If it meant that way, ten the lyrics should be "I loved you AT first". Anyway you say it "I loved you first" means she loved him either: 1. before anyone else did or 2. before he loved her |
