Actually he was Mormon.... he was raised in Utah... and went to my high school. His father has had a hard time with him leaving the Mormon church but if you listen to the song it doesnt seem to be about a certain religion about all religion in general. I know his dad has had a really hard time with him leaving the religion so that relationship may be part of it. If you look at the lyrics of some of their first albums they talk about this but not as directly. In "taste of ink" bert sings. "Each day gets more and more like the last day Still I can see it coming While I'm standing in the river drowning This could be my chance to break out This could be my chance to say goodbye At last it's finally over Couldn't take this town much longer Being half dead wasn't what I planned to be Now I'm ready to be free" Breaking away from the religion and town, and now this song, looking back. |
