Well...it's one fantastic song. I've never heard such a combination of frenetic pacing and desperation put together with jazz chords set to a killer rock beat. Although this song is about love and sex, it's really about desperation...almost that two people want to disappear into each other, as tho that were possible. To me this song is about a desperate search for meaning, expressing the desire that a fleeting experience could be made permanent and blot out the pain of otherwise mundane and ordinary existence. "Come down and waste away with me" means "join me in my hopeless condition so I don't have to be alone there, and take me away from my pain with sex that almost substitutes for real meaning, that makes me forget myself." |

the drumming is just killer, it's amazing and it's gorgeous. This is a relentless, frenetic, awesome song...unique in it's chord patterns and applications of rhythm and emphasis and the combinations of the two. |

Well, it's July 2009, and this is still a great, great song. The beginning of it is mayhem...beautiful. I believe this song is essentially saying, "we're angry, life is meaningless and nothing satisfies so what should I do? Should I find another lover, get some food...or track down my asshole brother and try to get satisfaction out of setting him straight; the new century is about to begin, religion's no good (according to him, or in other words is not an answer to meaninglessness) and for those who say, "numb out" (zen being the absence of thought and the disappearance into the bliss of "no-mind"), he says, "I don't think so". He's saying he doesn't know what to do and trying to just numb it out is not an answer...the pain of living is real and must be dealt with, not evaded. |
