So, I have officially become obsessed with this song. What I am getting from this song is this: Mary's boyfriend or whatever is getting ready to leave (for whatever reason) and he doesn't wanna hurt her by telling her, but he has to for the better. "Oh, Sunday came; Promise you'd tell her" I think means that he finally realizes that he HAS to tell her he is leaving. |
