Yeah this is definitely about drinking. "howling so loud that it alone drowns out the inside of me." She's using alcohol to "drown out" her inner turmoil. I think she returns to reality at the end of the song. The morning line refers to waking up after a night of boozing, I assume. They do tend to seem a lot brighter! ;) |

I think this is one person trying to get the other to open up. Someone has survived a war (whether real or metaphorical) and it has closed them off to real human connection. "You're not gonna lose this one," she says. She thinks he has it in him to choose love instead of isolation and "safety." |
