The Stone Roses – Sally Cinnamon Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is about pick pocketing a letter form a jacket on a train in town, its in the lyrics. The note is to sally cinnamon form her FEMALE lover. The lyrics allude to the person steals the note, and whilst on the train journey he fancies the girl (sally cinnamon) "her eyes are gazing back form every little piece of glass" and "you seem to smile from everything" refers to her reflection in the train windows. Then as he pickpockets the letter, and reads it he realises that Sally is in fact, very much loved and in love and also gay.
There is an old interview which ian brown is asked to explain the drug rferences in his music, which he arrogantly asks which songs have drug references? then the journolist points out that sally cinnamon could well be about Drugs (as a previous poster said), Ians response is very blase and he says, sally cinnamon is about a fictional lesbian

Joy Division – Passover Lyrics 16 years ago
alot of people say this but i want to aswell. Joy Division songs are not always about ians suicide, epilepsia or depresive and negative. Its a shame people think that, some of his songs are indeed depresive and may have connections with suicide, particualy with hindsight and when you know what happened to Ian Curtis.
Their style of writing songs wasn't based around a central meaning, or ballad style meanings, generally ian had a box of lyrics and even just lines of ryming words which they would literally 'retro fit' onto riffs and melodies that ian and barney thought sounded good. Mostly if it fitted rhymed and sounded good it became a song.
Quite famously New Order singer and Joy Division guitarist bernard/barney summmer forgets and changes the lyrics of the songs when they play live, in a book ive just read about factory barney is asked about the meaning of his songs which he just says "if they ever had meaning then i was never aware of it, its hard enough to remember the names of them half the time"
its easy to asume what these songs mean from ians point of view, but i think its probably not what you think its about. I prefer with Joy Division songs to associate them to myself and what they mean to me as opposed to what they allude to or are signs of a deppressed man who was suicidal and unhappy.

Joy Division – Atmosphere Lyrics 16 years ago
this is a brilliant song, completely disagree and was slightly offended about the person saying about its KKK and racism connections.
Peter Hook said this song is a funeral song, and he wants it at his funeral.
