Mhm not to mention the cry of "I don't your blood" in the background. The perspective switches but it's definitely about Pilate's lament seeing as how though he was the only one able to pass on the sentence he was still at the crowd's whim. Heh this is what I love about Kamelot though, they show a good deal of respect for but still only skirt around the topic of religion, never really take a hard stance (I think in one of the interviews Roy said something akin to "I try to keep an open mind and not weigh the music down" or something like that) but still always use it. |

| They say their lyrics are supposed to just be fantasy-gibberish but yeah if you look into a few of their songs you can actually get some very crusader-ish vibes. I wouldn't say they advocate it but the lyrics are definitely there. | |

"We are riding for the battlefield in force tonight, Fury of the darkest evil cry for war. Far beyond the boundaries of hell and starlight, On the road to lands unknown forever more." Blablabla we're on a crusade, rather typical Dragonforce stuff. Interesting thing of note though is that he claims to go beyond starlight, so they're combating something so dark that even the star's light won't be able to reach them. This could only be the dark lord himself, Satan. "Through the caverns far below our quest will lead us, Onwards through the ice and snow forever more. Standing fighting full of hate the time has come now, Stand and sound the guns of glory cry for war." Once again just setting the stage. But they're certainly going into the deepest circle of hell now, as portrayed in Dante's the Divine comedy (not actual biblical canon but still commonly used in theatrics and the like) the innermost level of hell is actually a frozen wasteland. Chilled to the bone due to the pervasiveness of the darkness present and how no light continues to shine. It certainly fits eerily well with the previous lyric about being beyond the boundaries of what most would consider hell and beyond the reach of the star's light. "On wings of glory we will carry on, Far across forgotten lands towards the distant sands." These warriors are angels ("wings of glory", c'mon) and these forgotten lands are probably another example of Dragonforce blending real geography with ethereal realms and dashes of pure fantasy. The sands could refer to the holy land, in ancient times it was considered the center of the world and directly bellow heaven and above hell. A trek across these "forgotten lands" (the events of which most today would consider to be myths) would bring them further along their journey. "And in the darkness shining far beyond the starlight, Lighning is striking from the dark dawning shadows. And in the kingdom of the everlasting son, When the glory of the master's time has come. Into the fires of forever we will fly through the heavens, With the power of the universe we stand strong together. Through our forces and power, we will soon reach the hour, For victory we ride, Fury of the Storm!" Listening to this is when I first realized there might be some interesting Christian parallels. The everlasting son, glory of the master, etc. They're flying into the fires of forever (Hell is a one way ticket, it's forever) from heaven so clearly they're warriors of God (or as DF sometimes likes to call them in their other lyrics, "warriors of light"). The power of the universe is clearly a reference to God's omnipotence and how they will forever wield the ultimate power. "We are the chosen ones, we cannot fail now, Spilling all the blood on the fires below. Smashing through the boundaries with the fire and fury, Killing all the mortals down the winding road. Hell-fires are raging, the storm growing strong, On the path to victory towards the distant sands. And in the darkness shining far beyond the starlight, Lighning is striking from the dark dawning shadows. And in the kingdom of the everlasting son, When the glory of the master's time has come." Etc. It's pretty self explanatory here. |

| No intended meaning but the lyrics could certainly have more poetic meanings than just being gibberish. | |

"The Light escapes her room tonight. Every little moment tells her now it's time." She has apparently been considering this journey for some time as every moment ticks by eats at her. The light escaping from her room is a reference to her leaving under the cover of moonlight further on in the song. "Opening a new scar, closing the wounds with a knife. No more crying in the lanterns light." I've always thought that this meant that she was possibly very depressed, so much so to the point of cutting. By opening a new scar on her body she "relieved" (I personally don't feel cutting's a healthy way to deal with problems but that's just me) an inner pain. But due to her escape this would hopefully be the last time. "Leave with the first light, go when you still see the moon. Run for the sunlight, gate is now open for you." The gate could possibly refer to the heavenly gates. Meaning somehow she felt she was being denied her rightful place, maybe parents who wouldn't let her convert. "Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away. You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day. There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past, Life is waiting for the one who loves to live, and it is not a secret." She's free, she's happy, she's no longer shackled by her past. "hades of darkness filled her life, In every single corner you could not turn right. Night could pass for a day, in her lack of faith, she let it all fade away. Once more, a cry in the lanterns light." This along with her desire to reach "the gate" from before definitely points to her desire for Christianity. Prior to this daring escape she was so consumed by her depression that day and night were one. "Lost in the sunlight, leave, you will not see the moon. Walk for the first time, no one has waited for you." She's so consumed by her joy that she loses sight of what she knew and though the words of her elders are ingrained in her head she realizes truly how her life is her own no. No one is waiting for her because her decisions are hers alone. After that the chorus just repeats pretty much. |

It seems to me to be similar to that, especially that part. But it seems not to just be about his doubts about God but rather a narrative about his journeys through faith. At first things make sense as he learns to accept God and the various truths he is told about. "To Rise, to Fall." Etc. Later on he falls in with a crowd that teaches him to question everything about himself. "It's never enough, you're wasting your time. Isn't there something I could say?" He's clearly in an abusive relationship of sorts that views his intangible faith as a hindrance to every day life. And he doesn't know how to stick up for himself exactly. The chorus states his return to faith ("blood healed me", obviously referring to the nurturing nature of and repentance achieved through communion) and its healing process in his life. And like you said, that section about is clearly about him questioning why he placed his faith originally and also questioning why he abandoned it at the same time. And though he knows deep down inside that forgiveness is something that will always come he can't help but be worried by the future. However during the final verse he clearly does come to grips with this uncertainty ("I'm inspired and content") as he knows faith is a journey with an uncertain route. |
