Love for this song!!! I'm a Christian myself, but I take no offence, in a way I agree. But that it's attack on Religion, not faith. Religion itself means nothing to me, and alot of the musicians like in bands such as August Burns Red and As I Lay Dying feel the same. Religion has a thick hold over community, and I think it's not right. People need to have the right to believe in what they want and not what someone tells you to. The song was written because of James' mum died of cancer. She was a Christian scientist who didn't believe in science and relied on her faith alone to heal her. The first lines are talking about when you become Christian and that you feel proud to serve someone so mighty, yet the second verse says that it isn't true. The third verse says about the word being spread, when Jesus was preaching around Israel, that the "clouds of deceit" are the groups of people joining Jesus. Then the chorus is basically James saying, "Believe what you want, but God didn't heal my Mum so he obviously doesn't care." I'm not going to say, don't listen or that it is wrong, even though I am Christian, I respect James' view on God. I cannot relate to what he is feeling as my Mum is alive, but I would no doubt blame God for a while after my Mum's death. But I will say this: Marie Curie was Christian and she discovered chemotherapy, and maybe that was how god was going to cure her. Or maybe he just wanted to take her home. |

When I heard this song and "The God That Failed", I wanted to know why these songs were written, whether they had meaning or were just sticking their finger up at God. When I found out what the song "The God That Failed" meant, I felt quite bad as I felt I wrongly judged them. The same with this song, I thought it was taking the pee out of Jesus, saying that he was wrongly healing the lepers, now I know that it was about the false prophets, I feel better about the band. | |
