| ...and now that I hear the studio version, he most definitely says "coon ass smile" whereas I've always heard "cajun smile" live. I must be ignorant about the usage of "coon" because I've always heard it as a racial slur. I hope this isn't what the meaning he was aiming for. | |

| Oops, I meant for that to be a post on its own. Sorry about that. | |

| It's "cajun smile" not "coon ass smile." I'm not sure why you would even think he would say something like that. | |

I love the song too but let's talk about the meaning. The way I take it is he is alone and see's visions of what could be with this girl. She on the other hand is confused ("swarm of bees" being all her thoughts) about her feelings or just isn't ready to jump into a relationship. "You just had to know" is her being uncertain but he isn't bothered by it ("I could use a little mystery"). I don't know, I feel like I'm missing something but that's my take. And I have no idea what "ghost pressure" means though haha. |

| I'd say you pretty much hit it on the head. I love this song but I bet you must really love it because of your situation. | |

I think the lyrics are correct. The only thing I'm not sure about is if he says "nearer" or "near her." Not a big deal really. Oh yeah, this song is amazing!!!! I made the mistake of waiting for it to go up on AP.net before I left for work. I managed to get a couple more listens in at lunch, but this song was stuck in my head the whole day. That's a good thing though, I was humming and smiling all day. :) |

| Phantom Planet – Do The Panic (Album version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I was watching a video on Youtube of a live performance and he said "It's about getting squeamish on New Year's Eve while trying to make out with a girl. Not me, I don't get squeamish, it's about my friend. Totally." haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OaEk52ig4w I guess the first part is about being afraid of putting yourself out there for embarassment/rejection. Everyone hates it and goes through it but you may as well embrace it. That boy survived a severed head When most would just give up for dead, So I said: "Albee don't get so upset." We all get scared of sticking out our necks It's expected! So panic. It sounds like the second verse is describing the panic that has set in. This place is turning upside down, And shaking all of our change out, And Charlotte's tossing her hair to the hounds - But it's her head they want on the wall Right next to the screeching owl, And I don't like this party Or the sound Of people walking across you when you're down. And that's it! So panic. That's my take at least. I'm not sure about the second verse but who cares? This song is too catchy to stop listening to! |
