Hunters & Collectors – Say Goodbye Lyrics 9 years ago
Tinytim and iamnick - I think a lot of their songs are about that.

David Bowie – Dollar Days Lyrics 10 years ago
I've got this album, but I've only been able to listen to one song, 1.5 times - this one. It's too sad, I start tearing up.

The Cure – Open Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is about being an alcoholic.
Nothing else.
I always hate it when he sings "laugh like an animal in pain" - such a distressing line.

Your interpretation of the California/Minnesota line is the only one I like, other than mine.

For the lyrics:

I've just looked in the mirror,
And things aren't lookin so good.
I'm lookin California,
And feelin Minnesota.

In my opinion this means "I'm looking bad, and feeling worse." I think I am the only person here who interprets this meaning from these lyrics.

Others prefer the meaning "Looking good/feeling bad," "Looking hot/feeling cold." etc. These interpretations are ignoring Cornell's preceding line, where he says that he's "just looked in the mirror, and things aren't lookin so good."

"Lookin California" might equate with "looking bad":

- California is sweaty and dehydrated
- LA is a pretty ugly place
- if you were a 90s rock god on tour in LA, you probably wouldn't get any beauty sleep. I'm sure Cornell didn't look amazing ALL the time.

Alright so I might be drawing a long bow there and I'll grant he is contrasting hot and cold locations, but I don't think it's meant to be taken literally because this song is about feeling generally terrible. It isn't in keeping with any of the other lyrics to say that he looks awesome.

Thanks for readin

Animal Collective – Also Frightened Lyrics 14 years ago
Line 4 is written here as: "Let damn groun[gings???] the hue of a pen."

But every time I listen to this song, I hear: "Let Dan Brown change the hue of their pants."

Makes a lot more sense.
