Sparklehorse – Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain Lyrics 15 years ago
That's an interesting interpretation, I hadn't thought of it like that.
I agree with your take on the general mood of the peace. In my mind the 'beep' was like a radar out at sea or in the middle of nowhere, trying to find someone. Or someone trying to find others. There's a feeling of being lost and helpless, but at the same time it's very calm and peaceful. I think it's strangely beautiful and I often play it on repeat when I'm out walking alone at night.

Counting Crows – Miami Lyrics 15 years ago
What a beautiful song. I interpret it as a sort of summer romance coming to an end. Only he's in love, but she just saw it as a fling. That's why he wishes the weather would never leave, so it could always be summer and they could be together. But he's in denial of his feelins - 'maybe I don't need no angel at all'. Then in the end he's just like, 'fuck it, let's just get it over with'. I'm probably completely wrong.

Also there is a running theme of Angels in a whole load of their songs.

Radiohead – Let Down Lyrics 15 years ago
I always heard it as:
'One day I am gonna grow wings
instead of growing useless,
hysterical and...'
In my opinion it makes more sense. But I'm the only one who hears it like that :/

Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics 16 years ago
The way I interpret it is the singer and his girlfriend have been through a difficult long term relationship, broken up and got back together several times and this time they've ended it for good (I'm thinking she broke up with him)

"I can't imagine all the people that you know...."
He's thinking about what she's doing without him and who she knows and where she goes. It's like he's jealous and hoping she's not seeing other guys. He feels like he is getting in the way of all she wants to do in life.

"And you tell me that it's over
Wake up lying in a patch of four leaf clover"

This is about them breaking up and then getting back together, he feels it's down to luck.

"And you don't want to be here in the future
So you say the present's just a pleasant
Interruption to the past..."

She is less committed than he is, she doesn't want this to be her entire life. He feels guilty that her dreams came crashing down, thinks it's because of him tying her down.

"I had these dreams in them I learned to play guitar
Maybe cross the country
Become a rock star"

He had plans for the future which involved her, he wanted to stay together and accomplish their dreams together.

"And I was thinking
What I was thinking
We've been drinking and it doesn't get me anywhere"

They still get close when they drink. This bit sounds like he's about to suggest getting back together but cuts off and realises they're both drunk and it doesn't mean anything.

"This is because I can spell confusion with a 'k'
And I can like it" - She confuses him but he likes it because it's her.

"It's to dying in another's arms and why I had to try it
It's to Jimmy Eat World and those nights in my car" - Reminiscing about the past and all the memories he has of them.

"I always catch the clock
It's 11:11"
11:11 is meant to be the time to make a wish, so he's wishing she'll take him back.

"My Konstantine, they'll never hurt you like I do"
He hurts her but he is still the only one for her, nobody else will feel the same as he does for her.

Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
Did you know I missed you?
I miss you

(That's the part that I usually start crying at :P)

"I said does anybody need that room?
Because we all need a little more room
To live"

They broke up because they were tying each other down and neither of them had freedom to live, but now he realises that nobody is ever free whether or not they are in a relationship, and they will both sacrifice this freedom they think they have so that they can be together again.

I think that's all I got from it. It's a very complex song and I guess different people interper it depending on their own experiences and what it reminds them of.

Calexico – Landing Field Lyrics 16 years ago
This song just makes me think of someone driving for miles in the middle of nowhere, the sun is setting and he's deep in thought about a girl who has left him. He's remembering a particular time with her when she was glowing and they were happy and he didn't think it would ever go away. But now she's gone and so are the happy times. He's not ready to give up on her yet, not ready to come down.

But it's getting dark and the stars are coming out, and he's alone on an empty road, and he realises he's on his own now and it is time to give up hope. It's time to bring it down this time.

Ben Folds – Carrying Cathy Lyrics 16 years ago
There was always someone carrying her because she was so dependant on others, she always had people there to help her when she was in trouble. 'To imagine a fall with no one at all to catch her' - one time she found herself in a situation where nobody came to her rescue. This is also taken literally in that she jumped from the window, literally falling with nobody to catch her. The song is from the point of view of her friends and family, who really were there for her all along, she just didn't see it until it was too late. There was always someone carrying her, looking out for her. I think this means that there were always people who cared for her and who would be affected by her suicide.

The imagery of her being carried in a box through the rain is so sad. There was always someone carrying Cathy, right to the end.
