Given the overall tone, which is no stranger to Tweedy, this could have been a Ween song. To all who are familiar with his song-writing style, or have seen them live, his dark sense of humor is often comforting, sometimes reminiscent of Becker and Fagan with Steely Dan. At the same time, I think this can be taken straight-faced, a serenade to the fans, with the satirical twist keeping it safely from self-awareness. Just my thoughts on first listen; perhaps I will hear very differently after the inevitable 20th spin or so, as I often do with Wilco. |
