Blur – Birthday Lyrics 12 years ago
To me this song has its roots in the cliche feelings people usually feel about birthdays, but it really kicks it up a notch. I mean as far as "kicks" go in Blur music (maybe I should call it "drops" to stay in the present zeitgeist) this is one of the hardest ones.

The song bursts open with unbelievable angst/expressing sounds right about the middle, after all lyrics have been spoken so it's basically split in two: melancholy and fear, excruciating unhappiness. It's one of my favourite songs from Leisure.

Then the lyrics are also moving. I love the wordplay e.g. "It's my birthday"-a regular expression people say combined with "no one here-day" etc. Powerful feelings expressed with simple words that unite ever more depressing feelings.

Song fits well with the early Blur period, in which you could feel a lot of their songs are written from the standpoint of teenagers and teenage angst.

Gorillaz – Re-Hash Lyrics 12 years ago
Someone [on YouTube, mind you] brought to my attention that Marianne Faithful's song Kissin Time [a Blur song] uses the same guitar rhythm. The meaning of the title, Re-Hash, might also be a pun on that. It's a Re-Hashed song.

I know this was released a bit earlier, but the song with Marianne might have already been composed at that time.

Blur – Chemical World Lyrics 15 years ago
When i was high with my friends once we started a whole discussion on WHY would they put holes in chocolate? -thus making airy chocolate...

This is only to add to the great interpretations from above - but when i first listened to the song it made sense - she's trying to artificially induce happiness through chocolate, but even THAT's tampered with and controlled as the airy chocolate holes are PUT there, they're not natural.

You simply can't escape.

Blur – 1992 Lyrics 15 years ago
It's all in perception, man. 13 being my favourite album means i'm into its vibe. And this, is anything, is one of its highlights.

Didn't like it at first, but sometimes time has to pass in order to appreciate something. Some of my fav songs felt rubbish at first only for them to "pop" in my head obsessively some 6 months later. And i couldn't explain HOW that came to be, but i know why. Because when listening to a song, like it or not, it's associated with a feeling. Later on when you reach that particular feeling the brain just remembers the song...

Gorillaz – Plastic Beach Lyrics 15 years ago
Albarn also had a lyric about Casio on Blur's "Mellow Song" - "Givin away time to Casio".

I don't know about you guys, but to me Casio yells out "watchmaker". Albeit reading this... i realize maybe in other parts of the world they smell of synths and stuff. That also makes sense.

Gorillaz – To Binge Lyrics 15 years ago
"My heart is an economy, due to this autonomy"
I'm sorry but i can't seem to make heads or tails out of the "economy" bit - any help maybe?

Also... i think Damon said every song should mention "plastic" or "beach"... yet this doesn't. Is it the only one that doesn't? If so, any reason behind it?

Damon also stated this is Gorillaz's equivalent to "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life"

Black Flag – This Is Good Lyrics 16 years ago
Hey, this is a more complete albeit not perfect version of the lyrics. Please correct the ones on the site:

I smash my fists.
Into my face
I can feel it
When I close my eyes

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I smash my fists.
Into the wall
I can feel it
When I close my eyes

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I think I'm at the bottom
When I'm cryin' to the top
I think I'm at the bottom
When I'm dyin' at the top

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I hate. To Want. You make. Me want.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want you.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want. To. Hurt. You.

I smash my fists.
Into the wall
I can feel it
When I close my eyes

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I smash my fists.
Into my face
I can feel it
When I close my eyes

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I think I'm at the bottom
When I'm crawlin' to the top
I think I'm at the bottom
When I'm dyin' at the top

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I hate. To Want. You make. Me want.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want you.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want. To. Hurt. You.

I hate. To Want. You make. Me want.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want you.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want. To. Hurt. You.

I smash my fists.
Into my face
I can feel it
When I close my eyes

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I smash my fists.
Into the wall
I can feel it
When I close my eyes

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I think I'm at the bottom
When I'm drivin' to the top
I think I'm at the bottom
When I'm dyin' at the top

And this is good
And this is good
And this is good
And this is good

I hate. To Want. You make. Me want.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want you.
I hate. To Want. You make. Me want. To. Hurt. You.

To me this is one of the best "i love you" songs i've heard. Maybe THE.

Rollins puts a lot of passion into singing this.

Sex Pistols – No Feelings Lyrics 16 years ago
"Punk's been dumbed down
To just another form of TV
Marketed to shoppers
Spoonfed carton rebellion like sheep"...

a little off-topic. I don't agree to all the attention Sid is getting. Ya he was a punk, Ya he died, but i think tons more credit is due to the others, especially Lydon. People nowadays have a conditional reflex of uttering "Aww, Sid" everytime SP comes to sight. Fuck that. Guy didn't even help much with the existing songs.

Dead Kennedys – Your Emotions Lyrics 16 years ago
The ending "your emotions make you a monster" is (what iwantawifewithtits aready kinda said) the bogey expression subliminally induced into our brains. It summarizes the whole song.

Brilliant.

NOFX – I Am an Alcoholic Lyrics 16 years ago
Maybe it's not about him. Imagine him like an actor putting himself in the character of this man and then writing a song about himself.

You know there are lots of guys who started life really bland and then... tipped over to the other extreme.

I think not all songs are from an own perspective and it's great if the guys see other people's problems and rotten lives, not just the things they maybe had to face.

I find more songs like this are useful. It was like a fix when i first heard it.

More often than not the religious-types are the ones not letting you go and this turns into a great nuisance. Of course, it depends on where you are and who's around you. I happen to be surrounded and have almost all my friends deeply religious. And those who aren't by heart are religious because their nationalism dictates they should be.
I also refuse to shun everyone i know, reason for me enjoying songs like this.
