I wasn't saying 9/11 was the only thing it's about, but I'm saying it's interesting how their new apocalyptic world is so similar to the things that he's witnessed. I was just saying that's the image that I relate to hearing the words, and the fact that that parallels their "vision", if you will, of this future, is really intriguing... and also really sad. |

Except... okay this is confusing. The chorus that's like, spoken, I think you're right with "I just believe in the enemy" 'cause that one changes a lot of the words around... |

Super job on the lyrics. I think that through the entire song when it's the chorus he says, "but I believe we're the enemy". :) |

^^I'm totally agreed with both of you. This song is incredible.
There is one thing lyrically that sticks out really hard to me thought– I'm pretty sure it's "If you stay, I would even wait all night, or until my heart explodes." And it makes more sense that way... |

It's interesting that the first two singles are so incredibly different musically, like in their style. But I love them both, and I love that My Chem can pull both off so well. This song is beautiful. |

This is one of my favorite songs from the album. I mean, the idea behind it isn't super original but I think that it's done really well. Also, the meaning is pretty obvious, haha. I think that, "This promise doesn't have to be too loud. Just whisper; I could find you in a crowd," is a brilliant set of lyrics. |

Also, in the bridge of the song, it totally sounds like a tribute to Good Charlotte. He sings, "Everything will be alright, alright," with almost EXACTLY the same melody that Joel sings that same line in GC's old song "Waldorf Worldwide". I dunno if that's intentional, but The Maine have toured with GC so I thought it might be. |

I dunno. I mean, the lyrics for the first bit of the chorus are a little similar, yeah, but I don't really think that the two songs on the whole that similar; the rest of the song is different. Especially because the "she" mentioned in this verses of this song clearly isn't a girlfriend if she calls him "son". I think the chorus is speaking to a different person than the verses, but maybe that's just me. And yeah, some of the songs are a little cliché, but I still like them, this one especially. It makes me smile, and sometimes that's all I need from my music. I do wish they'd done a little more branching out in terms of sound, though. |

I'm not sure about the Obama interpretation... Mostly because not all of it makes sense for that. I dunno. And I dunno when they wrote the song. I will say though that the, "It's been a good year, a good new beginning/I'm through with the old school, so let's commence the winning," would support that interpretation. However... If this were about Obama, it would mean Justin's writing it from the President's point of view, and I don't think he's egotistical enough to say that. Not sure. It could work but I'm not sold on it.
I had always thought of it as Justin talking about how he seems to often feel inadequate. It's the feeling that you've tried so hard and just want a little appreciation for what you've done; you always seems to come up short no matter what you do. You've been trying to get rid of all the bad things from the past but they always come back to haunt you.
Regardless of what they intended, it's a great song. And one of the best things about music is how everyone thinks of one song a little differently. |

I like alidazzle's interpretation as well. But they definitely made it sound sexual on purpose as well... I think the double meaning is kind of important. Similar to what ali said, a lot of girls think guys just want sex. The way the song is written is parallel to that: it sounds sexual on the surface but there's a lot more to it than that. |

The fact that he repeats "too much" is kind of just a use of irony to prove his point... So there's no point getting all pissy about it. |
