(Well well, Is that our little author?) He is referring to himself. Its interesting because he referencing to himself as an author compared to a rapper. Pointing out his heavy focus on his writing and lyrics. And maybe he doesn't want to casted as the typical rapper. Hes more than that. Saying your an author, shows you have a different goal in mind. (Coming back, humming his hymns a little altered) Very creative line. Basically it means Hes back and doing what he does a little differently. But he takes a unique approach with his choice of words. Hymns are song of praise or songs dedicated to thanking to God. He also has a unique word play with the word altered. The word altered means to change but I believe he uses this word because it sounds familiar to the word Altar. Altars are an elevated place or structure before which religious ceremonies may be enacted. He continuing his trend on religion influences in this line. (Your attention; put back on the flow like a department of water) word play on the dual definition of the word flow. (Take it off the door like little Walter) Not sure about this line. (Chess? Yes. Baby, I'm Jerry Lawler) he starts the line as though he is being questioned about chess. He responds by saying hes Jerry Lawler. Jerry lawler was a famous wrestler with the nick name “The King”. The game's chess most important piece is the king. Without it, the game cant go on. (Rebel with a cause; outlaw with the laywer) This line reminds me a lot of the We are lasers manifesto. Hes setting up his own persona in this line. Rebels are people who resist or defy a generally accepted convention or authority. He says he has a rebel with a cause. He saying hes resisting generally accepted convention for a reason. For an ulitmate cause. That cause is talked about in the manifesto. Great example of a Juxtaposition Outlaw are fugitive from the law; nonconformist. But hes saying he a outlaw with a lawyer. (Judge, jurry like a loo; Rap name Lupe but my daddy named me Warrior) Wasalu means warrior. But hes talking about how hes dad instilled those values in him (This is his memorial) This song is dedicated to his dad. |

"Manifest destiny is just a fancy word for murder." best line in the song. It summarizes the whole meaning of the song. for some of u that dont know what manifest destiny means, its the idea that was an imperialistic expansion is necessary or benevolent. Its a self righteous way of thinking. Its was the driving force behind the rapid expansion of America into the West from the East. causing our us to steal land from native americans and believeing it was the right thing to do. I believe cag are saying that the war in iraq is the same thing. "oh iraq is better with us being there." |
