I love this song. It's hauntingly beautiful, and its meaning seems to be powerful and obvious. Since I usually compare song lyrics to relationships (since that is the easiest way to explain some lyrics), it seems as if, from any person's standpoint whether the male or female, something wretched has gone on in the relationship, and it is as if they are done with the other person and this is a message to them explaining that they are not going to be there for them anymore -- the person is tired of the other person constantly bringing them down and thus telling them that they are going to be strong and not let that happen anymore, and thus leaving, "steadily emerging" into the world "with grace". Also, it seems to me that they are also saying that if any of that would happen again with anyone else ("felling any foe with my gaze") they won't put up with it again, either. |

I personally think this is a gorgeous song. It connects with me in ways some of the other songs don't, perhaps for its simplicity, but maybe more of what it means to me. It seems as if the person is speaking like they are stuck somewhere and in pain (emotionally); maybe trapped in the aftermath of a horrible break-up, trapped in the pain and wanting to get out of the pain its causing. Also, it can apply to other sorts of situations that cause deep emotional scarring and pain. |

Whenever I hear this song, I kind of see myself on top of a building or a cliff. And the lyrics are going through my head, like I'm singing it to myself, out of my mind. And then at the end, I jump, and all the jumbled stuff is like memories, and then suddenly I hit the ground when the song ends. It's a depressing song and has always produced that sort of imagery. To me it means, basically, someone going through troubled times and just suddenly snapping and going out of their mind. The song is sort of hauntingly beautiful. |
