Also like to elaborate on the phrase "She says that love is for falls that fall behind.." She doesn't believe in love she believes in marriage, she wants more than that. "I'm somewhere in between never really know a killer from a savior" That's my favorite line because he feels so trapped and paralyzed by his feelings he doesn't know whether to think she's condemning him or saving him. He questions and doubts his love. He knows they can't remain friends after all they've been through together. |

I think this couple was very serious. She had dreams of getting married and he didn't. He still loves her but she gets more distant from him knowing that he doesn't want the same things as she does. Someone wants to remain friends in the relationship but she can't accept that it isn't what he wants. |

"When you're all scared and stiff, a sick stolen gift" Have you ever had that moment when you're surrounded by friends but you're still thinking of the person that truly makes your heart ache but they aren't there? That's what I think this whole verse is about. It may be simple but I think that's what makes this song brilliant. Possibly about a friend who is a recovering drug addict or has psychological problems and needs to be reintroduced to the world instead of isolating themselves. This song itself feels like a sick stolen gift. |

Someone recently recommended this song to me and I realized that I've already heard it but couldn't think of where I have heard it before. I googled it to see every movie it has been in but have never seen any of the movies listed. It has since been driving me mental and I'm so happy you said it was in that episode of the gilmore girls because that's where I first heard it so many years ago. I can't thank you enough. Shit like this drives me bananas. |

Ever since someone asked me to check out this song and I realized I've heard it before but couldn't figure out why it's been driving me insane. I literally googled it to find out every movie it's been in and I realized I haven't seen any of those movies but I knew it was in something! the lyrics are too sexual in my mind to be about any permanent involvement..and once again the line "why wait any longer for the one you love when he's standing in front of you?" is himself..or this man..trying to coax this woman into sex..she told him there's someone else but for tonight..he's convincing her he is the other man. "you can have your cake and eat it too" |

I suppose this song being about his dog could make sense. Only the following line "why wait any longer for the one you love, when he's standing in front of you" doesn't really fit. this same line is also the reason why I don't believe it was about his wife either. also the line "Whatever colors you have in your mind, I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine" I always thought of as a deepy sexual line..but that could certainly be applied to a dog...seeing how there's an ongoing argument on whether or not dogs are actually color blind or not..I don't know but this sounds much more like a made up one night stand to me. his vocals on this track though are my favorite out of any. |

Personally my favorite verses in this song are " love is you, you and me, love is knowing, we can be" it's one of the most important aspects in love is that you can fall into or out of, so to even know that both parties can be..is rare. If even you "can be" can you remain is the real question? and love is..knowing that you can be. |

I also agree with Tidewaterhippie that "Unready" has misunderstood the two verses "Love is free and free is love" this is not about having sex with whomever you please at the time or an idealistic "hippie" view..it's about being free to love who you choose..and that love is the only thing on this earth that is actually free of charge..and that to know love, give love, or take love is "freedom" in essence. |

Unfortunately I've spent the majority of my life not having heard this song until recently..I agree with Boggyplanet in the last line that love to lennon was a higher level of thinking and the song generally is about playing mind games with a loved one..that to stay in love keep playing those mind games together.. however i believe the quote "doin the ritual, dance in the sun" could be related to a different quote of his which was "Rituals are imporant. Nowadays it's hip not to be married. I'm not interested in being hip" you can look up a variety of quotes on brainyquotes.com if interested..all of his quotes make such great sense when applied to everyday life.. |
